Why Seal of Blood/Martyr?Follow

#1 Feb 16 2009 at 10:49 AM Rating: Decent
I've noticed -everyone- saying how great these seals are, but when I look... I see nothing worth looking at. In fact, Seal of Vengeance even seems to beat it down, let alone SoC which dominates it visually.
Seal of Blood/Martyr does good consistent damage, but it's Judgment is pitifully weak. SoC does very high damage, but rarely, and has an incredible Judgment damage, not to mention it crits very often with stuns.

So why do people like Blood/Martyr? It even adds healing requirements.

Judgement of Blood will be your highest damage attack in PvE, and account for most of your total damage. I don't know how you got the idea that it's pitifully weak.

Judgement of Blood does a lot of damage, I don't know how you got to that conclusion. Also, the healing requirements help with mana regen which is always nice.

Judgment? I found Seal, but not Judgment... I don't have Judgment of Martyr.

At the moment, the stats(for me) are as follows.

SoC occasional damage 431-512
Judgment does 597-640.

Martyr does 185-225 every hit
Judgment does 698-763(my error, I must have looked at a different Seal for that >.<)
But the health cost is so high, 33%? That's a fast track to dying if surrounded.

Do you alternate Martyr with another when you have more than one enemy?

We don't use Blood/Martyr while soloing, only in groups with a healer. When you're by yourself go ahead and use Command.

Judgement of Blood/Martyr is just the notation used to specify judging while having that seal up.

For Example:
Judgement of Command = Judging while having Command up, etc..

Naming Judgements that was is a relic of the old Seal/Judgement system in which there was only 1 Judgement spell. It's still effective though.

Seal of Command has the benefit of putting out an amazing amount of spike damage. Incredible even. The down side is that (with the exception of HoJ+Judge) that spike damage is not very predictable. This makes it the premier PvP tool. It's incredibly easy to heal through massive amounts of consistent damage in PvP but big spikes make things more difficult. Not to mention with all the running, jumping, and weaving "consistent" damage is anything but consistent.

Seal of Blood has the benefit of putting up very nice consistent numbers in PvE applications. It also has the benefit of causing damage to the Paladin. Paladins that take damage are Paladins that are about to get mana returned to them through Spiritual Attunement. Now, in TBC this was THE reason that Blizzard implemented Seal of Blood with the self-damage effect. Ret Paladins didn't have much for mana regen, and even if it wasn't much Spiritual Attunement from Seal of Blood damage helped Blood Elves immensely. In Wrath it's much less of an issue with all of the new mana regen tools that are available to Ret, but it doesn't change the fact that you'll get higher consistent damage output out of Blood than Command.

As for your other question.. yes. Seal of Blood (and esp. Judging it) can rape your face extremely quickly in the wrong situation. Gluth, immediatly after a decimate comes to mind. That's why you have so many tools at your disposal. Three base-line damage dealing seals, each for different situations, and one talented Ret damage dealing seal.

there is so much we could include here, i'll do a few:

SoB
-EVERY hit(auto, CS, DS). SoC has a hidden cooldown on procs(DS 10 mobs, only 1 gets the SoC)
-stronger than SoC
-causes self dmg, which begs for a heal, which gives you mana

i even use it solo with AoW and DPlea.

Thanks sooo much for the replies and rate ups for all of you. I only solo and thought I was doing it wrong lol.
I forgot about attunement, so if I group I will be sure to use it.

Thanks again.

It deals the most damage. It's as simple as that. I've seen SoB judgments that nearly killed me, they were that big.

We'd use it for everything if the healing requirement didn't make it useless for PvP and difficult for soloing.
