What class has good Synergy with a Priest?Follow

So my friend wants to level a priest and I'm between a rock and a hard place trying to decide what would go well with the priest. He mainly wants to be disc, so I'm trying to find the best class that has good synergy with the disc priest. I already have a warrior and a mage and i'd rather not do the DK thing. Maybe a hunter or shaman? Any thoughts would be great...thx!

Really any duo can level together so just choose a character you'll actually like and want to play.

I've had fun with priest/pally. You can take on a pretty much unlimited supply of mobs non-stop.

Tried a few duos, some as disc some as holy or some disc/holy mix:

Mage/priest: nice, as we like eachothers buffs and they'll love a disc priest's shield, disadvantage seemed to be 2 clothies together meant a little competition for nice drops.

Hunter/priest: let the pet tank, while the pair of you safely nuke away from a distance.

Warrior/priest and feral druid/priest: tanking class with priest makes for an unstoppable combo that can just keep going and going - whether that be mob after mob or on some 3/5-person group quest elite, the squishy priest takes no damage, the warrior/druid never has to stop as the priest can keep them up between damage spells, with the druid I love being able to say 'innervate please', 'lfg, need 3 dps' makes looking for pug groups easy and I can go in without the dread of finding a hopeless tank!

Never tried Shaman/priest, but have tried Enhancement shaman/mage: my shammy is suprisingly squishy and hopeless as some sort-of tank, mobs had an annoying tendancy to run after the mage every time they got a big crit, but in this case the mage out-geared my shaman, disc priest damage wouldn't be so bursty as a mage's, plus a disc priest could help keep up the shammy.

If you’re just running around questing, any combo will work well. Warlock/shadowpriest has fine synergy, and you’ll want to run the same quests.

If you want to run instances, picking a tanking class would be smart. Since you don’t want warrior or DK, paladin or druid are both fine.

If you want to do a lot of PVP, I strongly recommend a rogue. Their powers complement each other very well in arena.

Like Teacake pointed out, first and foremost the rule of thumb is that any combination of two classes works well enough.

That aside, after giving it a lot of thought, I'd say an affliction warlock would be the most enjoyable fit for a disc priest. The problem is that most classes deal such a huge amount of DPS that they are technically soloing even if they've got a priest moving along with them. With an affliction lock you could simply DOT an entire camp of mobs and spam Hellfire while the priest keeps the lock alive. Mages might run OOM too soon for proper AOE grinding and the result of teaming with a rogue or warrior is that the priest will spend 90% of his time doing nothing watching his partner 3-shot everything.

Alternatively, you could go with a prot warrior/paladin and take the 'steady but slow' route where you're practically unkillable but take your time in killing as well.

Make it a druid. Hard to beat the advantage of having a warrior, a rogue, a mage, and 2 priests in a party of TWO. Not only should leveling and such being extremely easy for both of you, it'll also give you an opportunity to try a little healing yourself eventually. Adding a (if just potential) healer to your current lineup would be quite tempting to me, and almost a no-brainer in a situation where you don't have to level as one...

After some thought, and the fact that I dislike hunters and cbf with a paly, I'm gonna roll a druid. I think it will be like most of you said if I roll a druid. The party just needing DPS nad not having to look for a crap tank or healer will be nice. I've been a tank on my warrior, and my friend has a resto druid and we've both done some end game tanking/healing at some point in wow.

Thanks all for the feedback.

As stated, any class can has good synergy, but I leveled my S. Priest with a Holy/Prot Paladin for most of the way, and they have great synergy. The paladin can act as a tank and there are heals to go back and forth as needed. Based on the way a paladin tanks, we used to have fun trying to see the max number of mobs we could tank. I think the best we ever did was 15 at a time of equal to slightly below. Made for a fun time when grinding xp and between instance runs. Especially at those points that are difficult based on lack of quests (which has been fixed for the most part) and instance runs... such as the early 50's.

Overall though, it should not matter, most PUGs want a healer, and having a dps or tank come along is normally not a problem, so I would recommend trying something new. I would also tell you to look at loot tables, being a non cloth wearer is nice as you will not ever compete for drops.
