I am a new hunter at lvl 45 and I was wondering what the autoshot macro does, how to use it, what it is and what's the point to it? Any help would be gret for an up and coming hunter. Thanks for your positive input. : )

I'm with him. Autoshot is a regular attack. If you want macro help go look at the elitist jerks forums.

All im asking is some info on it. I have no clue what im talking about. If anyone wouldn't mind giving me the link to the forum with the autoshot info on it that would be great. Sorry about being so vague in my question.

Autoshot is the same thing as autoattack, except you are shooting vice swinging away at something. That is all there is to it. There is no forum, there is no macro to it. It is a basic ability your character does. He Automatically shots a single round from your quiver or ammo pouch at whatever you are attack while you are at range.

I still have no idea exactly what you are asking about. Tell us what you want to do and then maybe we can figure out what you mean.

There is a macro for autoshot? lol >.>

You can hit "P", look in your 1st book, and look for "attack". It's icon will be the same image as your Range weapon. this is already number "1" w/ all classes. I always drop it, for I play with a mouse..and ya'know, the mouse button to attack...

You can move that to a number/hot key and hit it if you would like to start each fight . . . and you will fire away until you move into Melee Range/mob dies.

However. . . something you said was strange..

Did you buy your account (or pick someone's up)?

If this is a "yes", you should start a toon up from fresh. You learn how to play and what not.

or perhaps he is confused when reading shot rotations that read something to the effect of

serp sting -> autoshot -> steady shot -> auto -> auto -> Steady ... thinking perhaps a macro is needed for auto???

maybe not new to hunter but new to macros?

I don't know ... trying to throw the huntard a bone :P

ah good point.
If this is so, then OP, auto shot is just the normal shot one would do before hitting the hotkey/macro for the next shot. You don't control it.

I would think the only time you need a macro for auto shot is if you are using a macro for example something like this.

/castsequence [target=pettarget] Serpent Sting,auto shot

now that they seem to have changed the way macros work that macro needs 2 clicks to start auto shot off and not knowing much about them i am not sure if it can be made to work with just one click but is that what you were asking ?.

I've noticed that simply casting a sting will also launch my autoshot... possibly because I have ticked an option in my battle interface menu for it.

OP could also be fishing for this:

When writing a macro if you want to ensure you start or stop casting shots, you can write in lines that say /startattack or /stopattack to enable or disable your autoshots. For example:

/cast Hunter's Mark
/petattack
/startattack

This will cast Hunter's Mark on your target, send pet after it, and start your regular attacks with one command.

Methinks OP found some old references to 3:2 macros (which are unnecessary now OP) and is getting confused.

There is no good shot macro anymore for any hunter tree. Patch 3.0 abolished the link between regular shots and specials, increased hunter DPS and made macros mostly useless. Hand weaving shots works better in most cases. Just bind a few keys to your special attacks like steady shot, arcane shot, multi-shot, chimera shot. Hit them in the order suitable for your tree. Read up over at Elitist Jerks, WoW Head, BRK's site or elsewhere for that info. The only thing I would include in a macro is your pet's kill command with steady shot.

Now I feel like a ******. I know what autoshot is. Its just I read on a forum about increase your dps by using something like /!autoshot. I said new hunter at 45 because I leveled him fairly quick and I am very noobish with using a hunter. Really the main point to this post is how do u use macros because I never used them before for any of my characters. I don't think they are really needed by my level but that is for the people who are replying to decide.

if you find that forum again, post the link here, maybe there is other info in that post that could help. Or if nothing else, people here can tell you if that forum is full crap.

The !autoshot was included in older (pre-3.0) macros to keep autoshot going and avoid restarting autoshot. That was indeed a useful addition to those older macros. However as has already been mentioned shot macros are largely dead, post 3.0.
