Mutilate and ExpertiseFollow

As a mutilate raiding rogue I find meeting caps something that I try to aspire.
I have already exceeded my poison hit cap of 315 and I'm finding it pretty easy to keep it there while getting gear upgrades from naxx.

However my expertise seems to be lacking, espeically from getting raid gear.
My old crafted epics and heroic dungeon drops provided a nice boost in expertise and each new epic I get takes chunks away from my rating.

The itemisation in wotlk seems very odd for rogues, lets just hope and see what ulduar brings :S

Obviously without the boost from combat spec I'm missing out dodged and parried attacks and I've considered gemming an option.
Messing around with the spreadsheet replacing every +16 agility gem with expertise actually shows a decrease in dps and I think
it would just be best to leave it where it is.

What are you thoughts on capping expertise and are you capped?

I've been combat for the most part so expertise cap wasn't that much of a problem. After I got my murder (was already using webbed death for my combat spec) I respecced Mutilate though and started to have the same issues as you. There are a few decent items with expertise that you could aim for. Helm of the Exodus from Gothik or T7 from Kel, boots from Loatheb, bracers from Noth and obviously the breastplate from Malygos all come to mind.

I'm currently only wearing the bracers myself so I'm gemming for a mix of expertise and agility at the moment. Not sure if it is the best option, but my expertise without the gems would be rather bad ...

I try to keep fairy decent lvl of expertise. It works for me.

As for poison cap, there is no point going higher than 200ish as Mut.

I am at 19 expertise and spreadsheet still shows slight up in dps over 32AP gems, which for me are better than 16agil.

Elustriel...you saying there is no point in going higher than 200 for hit as mutilate? Considering 18% of my dmg is IP in muti raiding, I'm assuming you're talking about 200 exp.

I second that, my poison damage is a huge chunk of damage out put and putting a fair few points into talents to improve poisons would be wasted without them hitting.

In response to the other posts my rating isn't too bad at the moment, its currently at 17 however with a few needed upgrades it will drop.
I will be replacing Trollwoven Spaulders (-28 exp) with T7.5 and also Hemorrhaging Circle (-33 exp) with either strong handed ring, surege needle or invincibility. All which give either hit or no exp.
Maybe I'll have to start gemming for it then, but I'll consult the spread sheet.

Reason I said that is because with usual raid hit buffs, I get to the poison cap when raiding anyway. I checked my raid logs, and I haven't really missed with poisons at all. Even on raid dummy, completely unbuffed, with my current hit, I miss extremely rarely.

Also my poisons dmg is around 30%, since I am using Instant/Instant Evis setup atm. It's proving to be pretty above your avg instant/deadly envenom setup, with someone else providing poisons of course.

243 or so hit rating IS needed to reach poison hit cap with 5/5 precision and either a shadow priest or boomkin in your raid.

If you're alliance you only need about 216 because of the Draenei racial.
