30k unbuffedFollow

Well finally, seems like it took forever. But finally went over the 30k health, unbuffed in full tank gear, setting at 545 defense, almost 99% on the avoidance scale. Might not be a big deal to many, but it was something i was working towards. All epics ( not welfare one's either). Except my trinkets, couple blue ones still seem pretty good for me.

Gratz, been over 31k for a couple weeks now with 2 stam trinkets equipped, but have swapped one for the Nobles Deck(+90str) for more dps/tps(mostly dps). Its nice being over 40k raid buffed if I feel its needed.

Interesting. I haven't done the actual math, but I'm sitting at 29.3k Hp UB with about 110% Block+Avoidance, which IMO is a better deal. Bosses in Wotlk don't hit too hard at all, and so far I've prioritized avoidance over pure stamina. I actually have been checking top pala tanks in my server and whilst I envy their HP pool, I am not too impressed by their Block+Avoidance.

Then again, it might just be me ...

110% = you need to start replacing some of that Block with either Dodge or Stamina.. to the tune of about 7%.

I've been building up a full-Dodge set of gear for Ulduar that lowers my HP pool to about 28k, but for outright steamrolling of current content I'm going with high-block, high-HP gear -- about 30.2k and mid-high 20s block, block capped with about 0.8% to spare. The reason Im not using the Dodge gear yet is because even pulling multiple trash packs at a time -- when you block EVERYTHING and the vast majority for over 2k, you don't take enough damage to keep mana up. Since there's still not enough damage to challenge the healers -- less effective itemization like heavy stamina doesn't hurt.

I've always favored avoidance over HP. My paladin is currently sitting at 27.2k HP with 105% avoidance + block. I've got one more upgrade in my sights from Naxx (neck) and possibly a new belt, and then I'm going to start tweaking my gems and enchants. Unfortunately, it's hard to reduce only my block % without also reducing my dodge, parry, and chance to be missed at this point.

One of the first things that came to mind when reading about the mana regen nerfs slated for 3.1 is that it will probably be a lot more important to avoid incoming damage altogether than it will be to simply be able to soak more of it. If I'm enchanting/gemming for stamina vs. avoidance, I'm basically just creating that much more for healers to top up. Personally, I'd rather dodge/parry a hit for 3k damage than have an extra 3k HP to soak it. It's not as critical for current content, and a higher health pool is definitely an asset for fights involving a lot of magic damage. I'm a bit reluctant to do a lot of costly tweaking now given that I'm performing well in existing content and there's no concrete information available about Ulduar yet. Once I see some finalized information, I'll definitely be giving my gear a much closer look.

Seeing all you guys post your numbers, makes me cry :( Just shy of 27k myself, unbuffed, 96.15% total block/avoidance with Holy Shield, 544 defense. But, I'd imagine that this is in part due to the fact I have been unable to step foot into a 25 man. All 10 man/heroic gear with just one more item that I would like to acquire (T7 legs), as well as a few misc. trinkets for whenever.

I am right with you Maulgak, 26.7k and 96.15%... but of course no 25-mans for me yet either...

Any block over 20% is wasted at least for the gear I have. Its part of the reason I don't want any more than 2 of the tier pieces. For 25mans you'll almost always have a DK or shammy present, so about 99-100% avoidance is all that's needed as the agi buff from either class is worth aprox 3%. Usually i have 55% pure avoidance and the rest is block+HS. And for MT'ing fights like Maly and Saph/KT it seems a decent mix atm.

I forgot what it felt like to be a nub again. I just started playing again after a 3 month break and I just hit 540 def/~80% avoidance (w/HS)/22k HP.

But the 540 is what I was going after.

You don't always have the option to tweak individual avoidance stats. The overwhelming majority of my avoidance comes from the stats on my gear...gems and enchants are for defense, dodge, and stamina. I'm in a position where I could trade some defense for stamina, but it's not just going to drop my block %...it lowers all of my avoidance. We've got at least 2 up-and-coming tanks in the guild, so if it's a choice between nabbing side-grades to tweak stats and letting them have a significant upgrade, I'm happy to pass.
