I just dont get it!Follow

Ive been playing a lock for years now and pre-WOTLK I was destro, top dps yada yada yada. Now.... my dps is horrid. Ive been Afflic since WOTLK because that seems to be the best dps according to forums, my spec is standard afflic but my dps is just terrible. I hit OS and VoA last night and could not top 1800 on the bosses. Its so damn aggravating becuase I really concentrate on keeping dots up with no down time. Im thinking of speccing destro to see if my burst damage can help me from this embarrassment. My afflic rotation is SB-Haunt-UA-Immo-CoA-Cor-SL then SB fill but it still sucks. My hit is 300 and I have some decent gear. Help me please! Is destro in my future?

Im sorry but Im at work and cant get onto WoW site to link my toon but his name is acheronscs. Please feel free to give me any advice. Im open to all criticism and recommendations.

Thanks

First of all, enchant all your gear. I noticed a couple missing, most notably help and boots. Kirin Tor rep gives a very nice helm enchant and Icewalker on your boots would help your hit. Get hit capped and get some better gear, you still have greens. I wouldn't ever want to step into a raid with greens on.

The only green I have is a trinket. I dont think that is really the crux of my issues. Im going to be hitting heroic UP for that sword and ive been saving badges for better gear but I dont think my gear is THAT bad. 80% is naxx or heroic 10 man stuff. Last night I had a guildie make a belt buckle for me so I have to add that tonight with a +19 Sp gem.

You think hit will make that much of a difference? 425 is cap right?

Here is a great post about hit rating.

Anyway, without any points in suppression/cataclysm you need 447.
Talented you need 368.
Talented + heroic presence 342.
Talented + imp.Faerie fire or Misery 289.
Talented + heroic presence + imp.Faerie fire or Misery 263.

And yes,it makes alot of difference =)

Yes, hit has the absolute biggest impact on your DPS over any other stat. Before I was hit capped I could look at recount, set to current fight always, and anytime I missed I could see my DPS almost immediately drop. Much more noticeable on direct damage spells, and not as noticeable on DoTs.

So would it be more beneficial to switch to destro spec? I guess the only real test is to actually just respec and see what happens.

Your hit is too low, definitely too low. Unless hit got de-valued in WotLK for 'locks, its still the best point for point stat until the cap.

Destro is just as reliant on Hit as Affliction. So even if you switch, you will not get more DPS out of it. Actually, Destro is currently just under Affliction in terms of personal DPS.

The other issue you may be having is lag. That is my problem running either Affliction or Destro. My computer is old and crappy. It makes it hard to keep a perfect "rotation" with either spec. I had great luck with FG/Emberstorm however as it is basically an Incin spam build. I am also having pretty good luck with the Meta/Ruin build, though it drops my personal DPS the Demonic Pact buff is increasing raid DPS and helping healers get bigger heals.

Lag is a huge issue in these larger instances. Last night in OS and VoA I was hitting 6 fps during boss fights. Its a big problem but I have 2 gigs of RAM and a good vid card and cable. I know alot of people get bad lag but I dont know if I can blame the bad fps. Im sut gonna work on getting my hit up and see what happens. Ill hit a ton of heroics and grab some badge gear. I only have 25 of each so far so I have a way to go.

Do yourself a favor and set up a castsequence macro then, not the optimal setup under ideal conditions but you aren't playing under ideal conditions. Since the castsequence can get really long, you might want to split them up into 2 or 3.

My warlock, Marlene, has a hit rating of 381. You can start working towards the hit cap before you even hit heroics and raids:

[wowitem=41984]Hat of Wintry Doom[/wowitem], [wowitem=42101]Ebonweave Robe[/wowitem] and [wowitem=42111]Ebonweave Gloves[/wowitem]: Made by Tailoring.

[wowitem=44062]Turtle-Minders Robe[/wowitem]: Requires Honored status with the Kalu'ak (Alliance).

[wowitem=44196]Sash of the Wizened Wyrm[/wowitem]: Requires Honored status with the Wyrmrest Accord.

[wowitem=42340]Dream Signet of the Necromancer[/wowitem] and [wowitem=43253]Ring of Northern Tears[/wowitem]: Made by Jewelcrafting.

[wowitem=38765]Rune of Infinite Power[/wowitem]: Obtained in quest Mystery of the Infinite, Redux.

Bear in mind that the crafted items aren't cheap- it helps if you are in a guild or know someone that can make them if you provide the mats and a tip.

Hope this helps a little! Smiley: boozing

Edit: I forgot gems.
[wowitem=39915]Rigid Sun Crystal[/wowitem] is a green gem which gives +12 hit rating, while [wowitem=40014]Rigid Autumn's Glow[/wowitem] is a blue gem that gives +16 hit rating.

You should easily be able to get away with around 330 hit in most raids, 1800 DPS is very low I would take a serious look at your SP. Also destro is definately not an entry level raid spec, I would look at going a hybrid to start. Even now I am still using 0/41/30 not because I want to but I have a 5 year old pc that struggles with the expansion. I know personally I could do better with Affliction but I am telling you for entry level raiding till your geared a hybrid will help you out immensely.
