Here is my build. I heal fairly well (Mana Tombs - last night) and can take a bit of damage, just seem to get pwned whenever opposite faction guys are around of the same level. Now granted we can factor in the pvp suck factor, but I think am too slow to damage enemy.

Any advice is appreciated.

First of all; don't worry about it. Even at 80 with 600+ resilience cloth classes can get 3-shot as it is. Pre-80 no one will have resilience which means DPS (who will in fact have their obscene amounts of bust available) will be royally kicking your ***.

Best advice I can give you is to keep Inner Fire and Power Word: Fortitude up at all times. Use Power Word: Shield as well, but if at any time possible, don't go out alone. Assuming you play on a PvP server.

What Moz said.

Currently the only cloth class that's really doing well in PVP is Mages. That's cause of their burst damage.

Our only hope right now is to keep shield up when you could be jumped, Fort and Inner fire. If you are shadow spec'd or holy spec'd you are at a huge disadvantage.

My advice - fear + Shield + run away

Also - generally speaking - Unless you PVP, getting jumped in world pvp as a clothy usually means death. My mage is stun-locked and dead before I realize I've been hit.

Well, there's battles you can win and battles you can't win. A gang-bang, a higher level or being stunlocked by a class with a blatant advantage vs. clothies (I'm looking at you Rouge). There's really no point mulling over the fights where the odds are against you. But if we are talking same level, and we are talking one on one, I think you can win or at least put up a good fight.

I'm sure a true PvP vet can you give you better advice, and probably better advice vs. specific classes. But I'll try to share what little I have learned in Battlegrounds (because I'm on a PvE server).

A Melee's #1 trick to cripple you is to try and maneuver behind you, because most of your spells won't work if the target is behind you. Notice I said: Most.

Shadow Word: Pain, Shadow Word: Death, Devouring Plague, Shadow Fiend, Mind Control, (and probably more) be cast on a target that is behind you. Penance and IIRC Mindflay are in a category of their own, because while you can't cast it on someone behind you, once it's cast it will cause your character to turn and follow a target regardless of what direction they go for the duration of the Channel. (Penance is good spell to go for, for the record)

Although Mind Blast and Holy Fire are better burst damage in your situation, you might have a hard time getting them off. Better to wait until your certain your enemy will remain in front of you to use them. Which can be accomplished with the likes of Psychic Scream.

Your very first instinct might be to Psychic Scream first thing. Let me suggest that you hold off. First thing you should do is PW:S. Wait on the Psychic Scream until you've Dispel'd, SW:P'd, SW:D'd and whatever else I mentioned above you can squeeze in before your Shield is properly chewed on.

The reason for this is because you can't ride PW:S to PW:S against a DPS of your same level. There's going to be a gap between where you'll be exposed, forced to go on the defensive, spending precious mana and time healing yourself. Use Psychic Scream to put this gap on your own terms. This allows you to not only get a breather in between Shields, it allows your SW:P and whatever other DOT you could manage time to work their magic, and well as giving you a casting opportunity with Holy Fire/Penance/MindBlast.

I guess in a PvP server likes yours you have to think of it like dealing with a Bully. Because let's be honest here, game-sanctioned behavior or not, that description is entirely accurate. They're not after a clothie healer because they want a challenge, they're after you because they think your easy. And as long as you keep being easy, you'll keep being a target.

Win or Lose, do not be easy.

So, if I get a Wonderbra will that make me better at PvP?

I need some amusement on a Monday morning :)

More on topic - I really suck at pvp (I've killed one person on my priest since Wrath came out) and I'm shadow spec, so I think I probably had more chance than you would. Your main strategy I think will be trying to outlast your opponent, through strategic use of heals, shields and fear (mostly covered above I think).

Other things which might help that you might want to consider:

1. Questing with the pvp trinket equipped, this lets you get out of an initial stun/fear which could buy you enough time to run away or at least give you a fighting chance.
2. Get a gear set with more stamina on it, a lot of nice healing/dpsing pieces lack stamina (even with the outland change to itemisation), building a 'survival' set might slow down your levelling a bit, but it will make you less squishy in pvp.
3. Use buff food/elixirs/weapon oil for that extra edge, BC buff food is really cheap on my server (4g for 20) and +20/30 stamina will help you live a bit longer, and the spirit will help a bit to reduce down time, elixirs or flasks will depend on the price on your server and how often you think you'll die, weapon oil should be quite cheap now (as I think enchanters still level on it) and whilst it won't work on Northrend weapons it will give you a bit of a boost to your spell damage which helps with levelling and pvp.

You know its funny you say that zem. I have a priest on Ravenhold and I do get picked on quite a bit by other classes my level. But when you mentioned saving your scream. Thats the same tactic I use. Sometimes I win but sometimes I lose. But I leave that guy thinking...wow he actually put up a fight. I was in the barrens heading to RFD when a orc warrior spotted me. He was 2 levels above me and I knew he was coming after me. I waited...I mean were you gonna go right. As he ran up I bubbled and cast my dot. I got holy fire off before he charged me. I used EMFH and cast mind blast.

Then my shield went down. So I used PS and off he goes. After 3 seconds my shield was ready so I bubbled recast holy fire, dot, MB then MF ftw! He took about 30% of my life but while bubbles I hit renew and I'm fine. It was awsome. Then I went and healed an instance. Guys in my party asked if I needed help. I said naw I got it handled. I'm just glad an 80 didn't come riding through there. I'd have been in trouble. ><

Against melee, I generally use Psychic Scream as early as I can to force my opponents to use their immunity cooldowns. My first Scream usually gives me a split-second of grace to run a few steps opposite the direction my opponents run while casting an appropriate instant like PW:S, Desperate Prayer, Abolish Disease or Devouring Plague. If it lasts more than that, I can get off all my instants while running away, then pause to use an offensive strike like Mind Blast or Mana Burn or, if there’s absolutely no danger of getting locked out of holy, Holy Fire. Then it’s a matter of outlasting my opponent until the next Scream.

As a discipline priest, I usually have the edge against other casters.

With your current build, you are in trouble with world PvP. Lot of good pointers that others made about when or how to use your Scream. My additional comment is to look at what you are fighting. If a rogue pops up behind you with their insane burst damage, then your scream is a good way to get back some of the health while you hope to recover enough health to maybe get a second scream and bubble up. Against other classes save it for when you need it, with the realization I have other PvP abilities such as silence for casters and so forth.

Here is the issue for you in world PvP, you spec is designed for absolutely no burst ability. As a Shadow Priest, I have held my own against all classes and win as much as I lose. But I have the added ability and damage reduction from Shadow Form, increased crits for spells, etc... that allow me to do decent burst and overall solid dps. The fact that I can cast heals without shutting off shadowform first was a huge improvement from way back when (Patch 2.????) Your spec is designed for group roles with solid healing and survivability, which is great for questing with a friend or instance runs. So again, listen to others and try to partner with someone if possible.

Bottomline in your case with your spec, you have to get the first 2 shots in to stand a chance in World PvP. Otherwise you will be in trouble against any DPS class or build. (Then again, in World PvP the person who gets the first shot or two is normally the one that has the unfair advantage. Unless they are stupid... like a warrior who was two levels below that attacked me while I was in bear form dealing with two mobs that were near death. Yes he whacked me several times, but quick phase, warstomp, two HoTs later, and a moonfire, he was already near dead, then he runs away..... lol... it is called feral build, it is called kitty form with movement speed effects, and finally it is called shred attacks.) Which reminds me, when facing a rogue, pay attention to their weapons. If they are using daggers, turning you back on them to run is as good as commiting suicide. Better to stand and fight and hope to get lucky or have them pull a mob on themselves through your scream effect.

Thanks all for your input......I found this build and it seems to be pretty interesting. I like it so far...going the remainder of the way down the shadow tree to VT.

I love my bust damage!!!!

These forums are pretty helpful. I guess once you start on the path of priest, you need all the moral support you can get. <3
