Druids and 2H SwordsFollow

#1 Feb 11 2009 at 6:49 AM Rating: Default
I have received my 3rd drop of a 2H sword that increases Attack Power of 775 in cat, bear, dire bear, and moonkin forms. Since druids are the only class that contain these shapes, has the use of 2H swords now allowed for druids? Thank you for your assistance! LuannD

A recent patch changed things such that any weapon can grant feral attack power (based on the inherent dps of the weapon), but that doesn't mean we can use all those weapons. The green text about the amount of feral attack power granted by a certain weapon was also added to all weapons in that patch, though only druids can see the text on most weapons. The purpose was to broaden the range of weapons feral druids could use slightly, since, as you noted, most weapons are not usable by us (all swords and axes, 2H maces).

At this point, this has a much greater impact for ferals still leveling as opposed to level-capped ferals since currently the best L.80 weapons are still our tried-and-true feral staves.

Just a correction:

Druids are able to wear cloth and leather armor only. Druids start out with different weapons depending on race; night elves begin knowing staves and daggers, while tauren begin with staves and one handed maces. Beyond that, druids can learn to fight with:

* Staff
* One-handed Mace
* Two-handed Mace
* Dagger
* Fist weapon
* Polearm (as of Patch 3.0.8)

Druids cannot use shields (but in bear form their armor is as high as though they had one), and they cannot dual wield. "Held in off-hand" items can still be used. This leads to druids using either a two-handed weapon, or a 1H + off-hand item.

Ha, no kidding? I've never equipped a 2H mace that I can recall, so I guess I just assumed. Thanks for the correction, I'll fix my post so as not to mislead anyone.

I personally thought of those debates over a year ago about "Can a cat's attack speed be affected by haste rating"? They used a two-handed mace drop from Gnomer to test. As we all know now, yes, auto-attacks are affected by haste :)

You won't have to destroy it horsemouth. You bought it from a vendor and the vendor will buy it back ;) If you ever get nostalgic you can just go buy a new one.

I know what you mean though. I shed a small tear when i sold mine. It just didn't feel right.

Oh, I didn't just destroy it... I equipped it and danced naked on the fountain in SW as a tribute...

Then I sold it to the innkeeper right next to it and went up to a room to cry myself gently to sleep...

In a way I guess I'm lucky in that I didn't reach 70 until a few monthes before the expansion. Knowing the expansion was coming I didn't grind to get exalted to get Earthwarden. Thats not to say I didn't want it though. :)

I like what Blizzard did for regards to gaining rep in the expansion.

Lastar while the lack of having to grind CE makes me hate you, you also don't have the badges to buy one of the 2 best tanking Idols in the game.

Have fun getting a H SP run. :)

edit: You do have the IoT. Did you get it pre or post Wrath?

Heh, druid weapon usages always make me laugh.

Last night after much failing on 3drakes we decided to knock out spider wing to end the night of raiding on a high not. Maexxna dropped Wraith Strike. I of course would love the Wraith Strike as a boomkin so I said I'd like it, our Loot Council was clueless that druids could use fist weapons so they gave it to the enhancement shaman who wanted it for his resto set. I'll mention as well that one of our officers is a boomkin...

Hope my ticket goes through faster for a mis loot, I want sexy fist weapons.

Edit: Forgot to mention I still think Earthwarden is the coolest looking 2h mace a druid can wield.

Been resto too long to have ever needed an Earthwarden, but I did grind exalted with CE just to get that silly resto OH they sell, which isn't even zomgamazing like EW was. tbh, in my head, EW has been a staff this whole time. I think, somewhere in the deep recesses of my head, I knew it was a mace, but sometimes the brain just doesn't pull such things to the forefront when you need it to.

I had the Merciless Gladiator's Maul which looked like it would be extremely painful if smashed into your head - it's my favorite (although I am enjoying parading around at the moment with my Black Ice equipped :)

Housemouth, to be honest I'm not sure about when I got the IoT. It was probably post Wrath.

I was very lucky in that my guild was looking to run full guild 25 man Mags and Grull so I got the chance to raid (as kitty) pretty fast after hitting 70. I was able to run Kara a few times too.

When I was leveling to 80 my plan was to tank but the guild had plenty of tanks so now I'm back to DPS. Has taken a while but I'm starting to get the rotation down so I can keep everything up and do half way decent DPS. The only thing I hate is having to run around trying to stay behind the mob :( I love doing Patchwerk and Lothab. They don't move around.
