Tanking - A Tauren's Perspective (literally)Follow

Well, this isn't so much a "what race should I pick"-thread.

However, I am currently playing with the idea of rolling a new horde warrior and more or less retiring my human @70 rather than investing time into a toon I don't really want to play, on a server I don't care much about anymore - at least for now.

I am torn between tauren and orc. I'm a bit concerned about the massive size of a tauren, though, especially when it comes to tanking and having to have everything in view more or less.

I tanked as bear, as human, and I'm now doing it with an orc DK. It's manageable. But them cows are like twice the size of a human, and I'm wondering how that plays out in places where you have to deal with a lot of clipping anyway, like Azjol'Nerub for example.

Am I worried for nothing?

it gets annoying. you get used to having your camera zoomed out all the way (or nearly all the way).

going from a tauren war to a nelf war was weird. i had to zoom in to get the right perspective on stuff. having said that, no matter what you think, tauren warriors are probably some of the most impressive looking characters in the game. that alone is win. plus having a 2s aoe "STOP!" button is nice.

Size matters; you've tanked as a bear so you know how irritating it can be. But the +5% health is so amazing I'd say it's worth the pain to go cow.

I have always been one for picking race on asthetics.
I always saw tauren warriors and shamans in endgame gear and thought WOW, they look awsome.

I play (mostly)Gnome on Ally and (mostly)Tauren on horde so the size difference is as big as it can be, yet I don't find much of a need to adjust the caera as on my gnomes I like to see as much as I can so always have my camera as far out as possible using the console command (/console cameradistancemaxfactor 4).

Places like Sunken Temple or anywhere with enclsoed, small corridors can be annoting as the camera gets stuck behind vines and the like, but jsut hit Page up and all should be fine =)

After you have run a few instances your eyes will be adjusted to the size of the beast

Yeah, right there is my concern. Azjol'Nerub is a pain even with a normal-sized character. It's one wrong move and you don't see anything at all. That place seems to be an extreme though. I just don't want to be blind in places that seem normal right now, if that makes any sense.

Doesn't help that for the first 20 levels I'll be seeing nothing but the Great Plains *shudders*

Off topic, but I have an overabundance of Stone Keeper's Shards. I've been thinking about getting the -leather- shoulders for the 10% extra xp. Any reason not to have maximum armor in a single slot while leveling? Probably not, eh? My reasoning of course being that this will be my last plate class on that realm, I won't get to wear plate before level 40, and leather of course being handy if I ever decide to roll a hunter, rogue, or druid on that server.

I use leather in my DPS gear. It's fine for leveling. The XP is what matters.

I thought you were going alliance -> horde? You can't share gear across that boundry.

This is true, the BoA gear is so much BoA as;
BOAOTFAR (Bind On Account Of The Same Faction And Realm.

Guess I wasn't clear enough then. I have several Alliance 70's on one realm - including a human warrior. I took a WoW break last summer after getting fed up with things. I got back into playing about a month before the WotLK release. It turned out that I had just missed a free migration thingie which would have solved most of my "issues" with that overpopulated realm.

Rather than paying for a transfer though I just re-rolled on another realm, and went with Horde to make things appear even more different. I leveled up a Belf priest there, and when Wrath came out I added an Orc DK to it. Both of them are 80s now.

Now I'm working on the baby warrior, which will eventually result in having two plate-wearing melee classes there. That's why I said I'm not going to create another plate class on that server. Rogue or druid are much more likely, maybe even a hunter or shammy since I always thought of shammies being rather cool to play, but I just couldn't stand looking at those tentacled, horse-legged Draenei dudes.

As you can see, a pair of leather shoulders bought for a Tauren warrior would benefit just about everything I might roll on that realm in the future, with the exception of Mage and Warlock. I'll never play a lock, tough, and I think it's more likely that I'll end up with another druid rather than a mage.

My Alliance toons are very much retired. I logged in and played a bit with the 3.0.2 talents (which is why I was blown away by the way Prot has changed), but with the exception of my druid there (75 now) I'm not playing on that realm anymore. Just waiting for the next migration offer. But even if I could get those toons moved elsewhere, there will never be a new Alliance character, simply because I already have everything I would ever play from that faction.
