Feral confusion.Follow

I like this versatile class. But last time I'm confused with cat form damage. May be this is just my imagination though. Since I like versatility of druid, I'm playing hybrid - balance/feral. In my early 50s I was something like 15/25 in talents if I remember well and in cat form I used to do Prowl - Tiger's Fury - Pounce - Faerie Fire - Shred - Rake - Claw - Ferocious Bite (all in order of availability of energy) and after that enemy was died in most of cases (yeah, only with 4 combo points on FB). I didn't played more than half of year, expansion came and I've returned. Got exalted with Cenarion Circle, not much used cat form though due to high density of mobs in Silithus. So I've came to Hellfire Peninsula and started to grind Shattered Hand orcs for reputation and got disappointed - after Prowl - Tiger's Fury - Pounce - Faerie Fire - Shred - Rake - Claw - Claw (5 combo points) those mobs still have about 50...60% of health! I'm level 62 currently, updated my feral armor with two Wild Draenish items and few 'of Bandit', inserted glyphs, have 31/22 in talents but my DPS on them isn't good at all. In the same time in Moonkin form I'm killing them in less than 15 seconds. It seems I've missed something. I would be glad if anyone could tell me what it was.

What level are you now?

If you have Moonkin form you should only be in cat to stealth around. You shouldn't have that many points in feral if you are trying to go balance.

Armory please.

Druid is versatile but spec'ing deeply into 2 trees just doesn't work very well.

As I said I was hybrid too ten levels ago but then it was 2.3 not 3.0 and it was Kalimdor not Outlands. I wish to realize why so big difference is now.

Quite simply, Hybrid is BAD. You need to either spec full Balance or full Feral or you will struggle all the way to 80. In both cases you can throw a few points into Resto to get Omen of Clarity, but that is all. At the moment you are doing half balance damage or half feral damage. Pick one and things will be much easier (and a lot more fun!).

Judging from your gear I would say go Balance.

Try this out . Some of the others here have more experience with balance than myself but that should be a good starting point. Stats to desire, Int, SP, crit and stam. Other stats will just come with the gear.

If you want to go feral than do this. Is more cat and leveling based but you can tank in a pinch. Pack Str, Agi and crit. Other stats will come with the gear.

Yeah, the problem is that just because druids are a hybrid class, they really aren't meant to spec their talents like hybrids - you really have to chose one tree and just stick with it.

If you chose moonkin then the reality is that you wont have much need for cat/bear form as the moonkin is more then capable of taking melee damage while he's dishing out spell damage - go full moonkin and just supplement it with the other tallent trees - I'll allow the resident moonkins to advise on specifics.

If you chose feral, then don't even waste your time pretending to cast spells - ferals will occassionally pop out of melee mode to toss some heals on themselves if things get ugly, but the reality is that you're going to spend 99% of your combat time in cat or bear form (kitty for dps and bear for tanking). As such, you should mostly focus on the feral tree and just work the resto tree enough to get Omen of Clarity. To give you an idea of just how incompatable feral is with moonkin, I have ZERO INT/spirit/spell bonuses in my dps and tank outfits - I would need a third outfit if I wanted healing bonuses.

A druid is basically just a hybrid in name only - when it comes down to it we're one of three things:

Moonkin - caster dps that can heal or tank in an emergency, OK healing thanks to the +spell gear but not so good tanking due to lack of AGI/STA gear (and possibly even wearing some cloth pieces for the superior INT/spirit/+spell)

Feral - first class tank, solid melee dps and really crappy heal/spell dps

Healing tree - opposite of Moonkin - great heals, ok spell dps, not so hot melee/tank

They changed the Agi and Str to AP ratios. Str is better now. You probably had more Agi than Str. Would cause a drop in damage with out a corresponding change in gear strategy.

Also, if you were spec'd as a hybrid, out in Hellfire hitting level 62 mobs and using claw...

Claw wasn't bad for mobs back in the day in Azeroth.

When Outlands came around, they made the mobs hit a little harder, have a little more hp and in general make it a little harder.

Mangle does waaaaaaay more damage than Claw. Blizz tuned druids to expect to need to use Mangle to maintain the same speed of killing as a feral.



If you read back through some of the old feral posts, you may see Mangle mentioned as "an Everlasting ******"

BC mobs have more armor, higher health and are at a higher level than those of the old world.

But, the build thing did have something to do with it. Being it with tweaks on different talents, reshuffling of talent points in the tree and what not.

We understood your question perfectly. Our answer was "Your spec is terrible and inefficient."

In case you haven't noticed, monsters in Outland have significantly more health than they do in Azeroth. Your DPS hasn't changed, but it's subpar enough that the increased health is making the self-inflicted handicap you've imposed with your balance/feral spec start to rear its head.

You talk like this is some bizarro world effect...

Fire Mages don't spam Frostbolts. Don't bother with caster DPS if you're in a feral spec, or vice versa. Talent points are meant to bolster your efficiency and shape your method of play into a particular mold.

Based on your armory my advice to you would be to switch to a full balance spec, because your gear is grossly misdirected for a feral design, and is sorely out of date to allow it to 'overcompensate' (Lv30~40 greens/blues!!).
