ok, I'm getting confused now. 3.08 patch notes are:

Quote:
Improved Tracking(Survival): This talent has been slightly re-designed. Now reads: While tracking Beasts, Demons, Dragonkin, Elementals, Giants, Humanoids and Undead, all ranged damage done to those types is increased by 1/2/3/4/5%.

Though I read here and there on the EJ forums them mentioning that you don't need to track the mob itself anymore, but I haven't seen any surporting info other than just that statement. So can anyone clear it up for me? I haven't been changing my tracking away from minerals so I may be missing out on some DPS. I was hoping since they show up on my mini map when I throw hunters mark on them, that the mob would be considered being tracked.

Nope, the mark doesn't count.

Essentially, if you're tracking something that can be killed, you get a 5% damage bonus. Otherwise you don't. It won't make any kind of noticeable difference in solo play, just keep tracking those minerals.

I should have included this in my original post, but this is from the Survival topic on the EJ forums:

Quote:
Improved Tracking

A simple talent that gives 5% damage for 5 talentpoints. Decent. You no longer need an add-on to switch tracking to targettype.

This is what confused me, I've been searching the forum for more up info but a simple search of "Improved Tracking" has yielded many pages that I am going through.

Like Xsar, tracking skill now doesn't force you to change your active track to get the increased damage. If you are tracking undead and fighting humaniods, you will still get the bonus. Basically it allows us to not worry about swapping tracking when in an instance with multiple mob classifications (although with the speed my groups normally ran instances, I can't really remember doing this much).

Click on the minimap icon or look at your survival page, anything listed as "Track ____" will give you a bonus to damage to any other as long as you have a form of tracking MOBS active (not minerals, herbs or PC's).

it is a bit odd, at first it only added the bonus if you were tracking the type of mob that you were killing, but that was really annoying, so they changed it. meh
