RetributionFollow

All the retribution guides are lame. So I guess I'm going to noob it all the way. I like to research a spec before I end game with it but the paladin FAQ doesn't include much end game and the ret guide is a year old.

So before I hit up naxx it's safe to say I need...
- 262 Hit Rating
- 2k Ap unbuffed
- 1.5k dps on my own unbuffed
- 20% crit chance
- 6% haste

Am I missing anything? Thank-you for any help.

Starting Naxx and Heroics, you should be looking at (unbuffed):
2500 AP
25% crit
9% +hit (295 hit rating; 260 hit rating if there's a draenei in the raid)
15000 HP

Taken from the Ret sticky right here on Allakhazam by Toolofjesus.

It has been updated and it is NOT a year old... might want to take another look. It also does list gear suggestions for Naxx readiness.

EDIT:

I take that back... Toolofjesus hasn't put together a gear list for level 80 yet... the stuff on the gear list IS totally outdated. Looks like the talents and some of the general information are totally outdated as well.

Someone should fix that....

Hit cap is 8%, 7% if there is a dranei in the party, not raid.

The stats in the sticky are correct, gear wise the crafted (spiked) titantsteel helm and boots is a good start mixed in with the savage saronite (though its pvp pieces) can help. Exalted boots from Ebon Blade will last you through Naxx until the Melancholy Sabatons off of 25 man Maly. The honored Kalu'ak, or whatever there name is, chest piece is not bad for only an honored item. Best weapon to start off with would be the titansteel destroyer if you have the money for it. Buy the Cloak of Bloodied Waters off the AH, only dps cloak with Strength. This is off the top of my head. Sorry for not linking the items, don't know how to do that.

kinda way off

- anything over 200 hit is fine
- 1k Strength unbuffed(AP is for hunters)
- unbuffed dps doesn't make sense. you can do 10k dps on a tram rat.
- 25% crit is nice to stay above
- haste makes waste

- also try to keep your hp floating around 17k. nothing more embarrassing than 2-shotting yourself.
- anything with some +int, +exp, or loads of +agi should also be considered, but only secondary.

PSHAW! I've been raiding Naxx on both normal and heroic for weeks now and I finally got to 1002 unbuffed Str two resets ago..

Level 77's can not wear Tier 7. A level 80 who raids heroic Naxx with me does less healing than I do while I'm ret and judging Light. It's because he needs a lot of work. I just got him to respec for Beacon and Conviction, and now I'm working on fixing his cast priorities.

On a side note is it just me or is it extremely easy to get good gear now? I respecced Ret for the guild a week ago and now I am sitting at a comfertable 2k dps in heroics more in raids. In heroics im sitting at 3400 AP usally (if a DK is in group can jump to 3800ish). All this with the AH/Rep/Heroics. All this in less than a week of casual play. Wasnt hard at all. And the Ret guide does need to be updated. But to Potsoriginal i would recommend more crit chance and mesaure your dps in a heroic or on a training dummy. Solo doesnt mean crap. My dps meter was sitting at 34k dps solo one day all day. Even when i reset it. I know that isnt a real but hey...Great screenshot. :). Good luck in your raiding career!

my apologies. 3 months of wrath and no fully updated ret guild is definitely ftl... i'll take some time this week to get back to updating it. no guarantee's that it'll be complete this week, but at least i'll start work on it again. some of it's just a few minor patches behind, but much of it is still BC info :(

Well this is a ret thread so I'll post here. I have a few questions if I may. I will say this...I am loving my paladin. Never have I been addicted to a class. Though I leveled a pally back pre TBC. Then you'd cast judgement and seals would dissapear forcing you to recast them. There for your mana would be gone. Now seals last for 30min and are still there as soon as you judge them. I'm loving it. Fighting mobs 4-5 levels above my own and the crits are amazing. My question revolves around ret builds. I just need to know when is a good enough time to add the 5points into prot tree for the added strength. I was trying to find a thread so I could read up on it. Can't seem to find anything.

Was looking for some ret builds to work my soon to be build around it. Here's my armory so you can take a look if you'd like: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Aerie+Peak&n=Atarius

I'm mixing str with agi so I can land some good crits. Any help would be much appreciated. So you don't ask I'm a solo paladin running a few instances. I ran SFK, WC and VC. I was number one on damage. :D Yey!

My ret is my secret-server alt that I go play when I want to get away from my main's guildies and friends list, so take my advice with a grain of salt. My guess would be that you need to spec ret down to Crusader Strike before you even think about starting in Prot.

And even then, it might be more beneficial to get Imp Kings with your five prot points since that gives you 10% in all stats, rather than 15% in one. Stam and Int are just as important to efficient leveling as Str.

A soloing ret should be using Imp Blessing of Might...Kings is for buffing other people in raids. Taking kings over divine strength is madness, though most lvl 80 ret builds have both.

Ret itemization is easy: STR, STR, and STR, and then STR. and then hit rating and crit rating (the latter much more important than the former for leveling).

At level 26 you are on the right path. I didn't put 5 points into divine strenght until I had Divine Storm. You may want it earlier, but you don't really NEED it until then. I would recommend getting divine strenth before you max out Kings, and if it is true that Kings will be trainable for all Paladins in the next patch you may not have to take Kings at all depending on how they structure it (if they make the 2% version trainable but still make us put 4 points into improved Kings for the full 10% it is going to be annoying).

For now, keep putting points into the Ret tree and prioritizing the stuff that will make you do as much damage as possible. So far you are fine.

Any reputable ret paladin uses Blessing of Might instead of Kings.

As for raids: You can easily skip BoK as most guilds bring along enough paladins that one's bound to have Blessing of Kings. Put points rather in some of the pvp talents in the ret and prot tree, that affect your Hand-spells, like increase duration for HoP/HoF and Divine Purpose from the ret tree (gives HoF a 100% chance to remove stun effects - can be a life saver in a raid - ).

No mate. Having BoK is a bonus, not a necessity as ret. And frankly it doesn't even matter anymore as BoK is being turned into a trainable spell for all paladins in 3.1

For leveling, skip on BoK. You'll be using Might all the time.

For your build, you go down Ret to Repentance, picking up the sensible leveling talents (i.e. the ones that aren't obviously raid/PvP oriented), and then pick up everything below that, basically, until you hit Divine Storm. Once you have DS you can pick up Divine Strength from prot and maybe flesh out the ret tree. Ret builds don't go into deep prot for anything except PvP, and they don't go into holy at all. You're level 26, so it shouldn't matter what you've picked; the difference will start to show around level 40-50.
