Thinking about Respeccing...Follow

#1 Feb 04 2009 at 12:46 PM Rating: Decent
So right now I am a feral cat druid, and I am thinking of respeccing to be a Moonkin. I can't tank as a feral druid I guess, and my DPS is pretty bad in instances as a cat druid. Would a Moonkin be any better? Also, what is the downtime like for Moonkins?

Why can't you tank as a feral druid?
Stack stamina, armor, agility and dodge. Mangle/lacerate single target mobs while using maul when you have the rage. Swipe/maul for trash, mangle the main kill target if you're low on threat and growl if someone should pull hate. Insure all dps are on the main target (This is important)!

The cat rotation can be difficult in intense battles but becomes easier once you've played it a lot. Keep mangle, savage roar, rake, FFF and rip up on bosses. The rip/mangle glyphs will help as well as a pair of T7 for the rip duration.

For trash either focus single target down using mangle/SR/rake/shred or get SR up and kitty swipe. If your DPS seems low on trash - who cares, it's trash. As long as it dies with no issues then your job as a DPS is complete.

I can't answer the moonkin questions as that is the spec of druid I haven't played. I know they can be competitive in DPS though.

It isn't really that a druid can't tank, I just can't do it myself lol. I can never get the hang of it.

In theory I'd think the DPS of a Moonkin would be higher than that of a Cat, and it would provide more buffs to the raid. However, that isn't to say a Cat can't properly DPS.

But yeah, if you never use the tanking aspect of being Feral maybe Balance would be a good alternative. If you're talking max-level stuff, there is little downtime with a proper raid setup. Pretty much the same while soloing, in fact.

The dps rotation of a balance druid is much simpler to keep going than a feral dps rotation. That's why a balance druid will almost alway do more dps than a feral. On top of that i think balance dps is just a bit higher than ferals. I heard a rumor that feral dps is getting buffed in 3.1 patch, but so far i only heard it from a guy ingame.

The downside to going feral dps since you hate tanking, is that you will constantly be bugged to tank stuff. In conclusion, if you want more dps and noone bugging you to tank. Go balance :)

The rotation thing is quite true. The first time I did Naxx with my guild I was still Feral and mostly did DPS and it was a huge pain to keep everything rolling *and* manage to stay behind my target (or on the side) while moving/following the boss around.

And yeah, being at range makes things so much easier. The DDR boss becomes a joke and so many others also become significantly easier. Feral DPS is really, in my opinion, best if you intend to tank on the side. (Though I must admit I miss Feral when questing/farming)

If you're finding the 2 button mash overly difficult I actually have a macro to do it for me
/cast Swipe
/cast Maul

/cast Swipe
/cast Maul
/run UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

No annoying red text: "You can't do that yet" or whatever that garbage says haha

Won't that macro turn off your maul half the time? Since you'll be spamming swipe every cooldown, you can hit the button twice before the maul goes off. That will turn off the ability and you never get to hit with your maul.

Unless it's an option that you can change, even if you press your Maul hotkey a second time, it won't turn off the ability. It will only be deactivated if you change target, as far as I know.

Maybe it's that same option that prevents you from shifting out if you press the shift button twice quickly by mistake.

I've never had a problem with missing a maul due to button/scroll wheel spam outside of simply not having the rage to perform the attack.
