At what crit rate can you take a point out of GftT and put it to better use someplace else as survival?

Just watch your pets focus throughout a fight and if it stays pretty full you can drop a point. Otherwise keep two. If I had to guess, I'd say 30ish unbuffed.

Actually, 20-25% with only one point in GfTT works quite well, from my experience. I think there's a discussion about such things around here, somewhere... :)

It's a risky thing really.
There's a theoretical point at which 1 point in GftT should be enough, but 1 point also means that your pet runs out of focus more easily if you're getting a period with less crits.

It's a weigh off between overflowing focus from 2/2 GftT or running out of focus with 1/2 GftT.

I figure since raid buffed I'll be looking at +40% crit on any shot. Not to mention all of the talents modifying explosive, aimed, and steady plus the fact that my pet's specials don't make up a ton of my dps I figure I could better use that point in careful aim to hit cap me until I get better gear. Or am I underestimating the amount of dmg I'm gaining from my pet being over flowing with focus?

Is that 40% crit on your character screen or in your WWS's?
Because there's a large difference between the two.
From tests it seems that when hitcapped, we lose roughly 4.8% crit vs a raidboss.

Charater screen. I'm sitting at around 23% so with buffs + LotP/Rampage + master tacticion should put me at around 40% tooltip crit.

EDIT: I guess my real question is will I gain more dps from 1% extra hit (not capped yet) or from my pet having more focus.

1 point should do you fine after a week or two of raiding. I have 30% crit chance and 40% with the master tactician talent procs. Then I some extra crit chances from talents for other skills here and there. My pet sits at about 43-65 focus an entire fight (Black Cat).

Does this have something to do with the armor increase they made for bosses because of the high ignore armor ratings?

Nope, armor has nothing to do with crit.
It has to do with bosses defense rating and whatever blizzard comes up with.
Same way the % of hit needed has been different at each level cap, the amount of crit lost vs bosses has changed too.
(if I recall correctly, it was only 1.2% in BC)

Yea sorry I realized this, I guess I was too vague on my post. What I meant is when I read the post on the armor increase I also thought Blizzard put the informative "and other mechanic fixes" in there. I had just assumed that they also bumped up bosses crit reduction. The one thing I don't like however is if what you stated is true. I understand the rescaling of the hit cap, but they already hit us with a crit loss by changing our crit formula. To also increase the loss from 1.2 to 4.x is just double dipping. ><
