Hi all,

I have been absent for a while as I got made redundant from one job but quickly managed to get myself a new and better job. Therefore I have been settling in and have not played wow as much as I used to.

However wow seems to be getting on fine without me. I have been 'questing and messing about' on the basis that the guild I am in (RL friends) could not raid a fridge let alone a dungeon in wow, so when the opportunity to join OS 10 cropped up I leaped at it.

Ok, I am a good (ret) pally I have played one for 2 years and generally know my stuff. When it came to raid damage I expected to be in the top 5.

I came top.

I did 25% of the total damage done in the raid.

I am not sure why, I am fairly well geared and I know what to do as a pally but is such a large chunk of damage from one person normal? I have not done many raids.

I can sort out a screenshot if people want/don't believe/like pictures

Also seems like they (Blizz) went to town on EZMode; I have pugged both 10 and 25 man OS, I could not imagine BT, MH and so on being pugged 'back in the old days'.

cheers

Welcome back to the game I say.

Ret palas do pump out a very respectable ammount of damage these days, so don't be surprised to top damage charts if you are well geared. Even in ret offspecc guise (I'm prot mainspecc) I regularily top 5 mans and am top 5 in Naxx25 (and my guild does clear Naxx 25, so all are well geared). So yes, it's doable.

OS is not a challenging encounter by any means unless you try to leave some dragons standing, so it's not really comparable to BT. As a matter of fact, no current content is very hard to pull off even in a pug (moderately geared of course), which is why, at least on my server, you see people pugging EoE, Naxx and OS... Ok EoE HC is harder to come by as a pug, but some people have recently started shouting it around in my server (dunno if any of those pugs actually has gone through as you need the key thing).

Hope that helps.

Because Divine Storm and Consecrate are a part of our "rotation", static boss fights with adds milling around (the whole of Obsidian Santctum is a good case of this, you'll see other fights when you start Naxx that are perfect examples. Noth the Plaguebringer, Gothik and so on) tend to have ret paladins topping the charts.

Your Divine storm just got dodged? Never mind, it clipped 3 adds for 5k each anyway. On target dummy bosses like patchwerk, you'll still see rogues come out on top, especially mutilate rogues who know what they are doing. I'm experiencing a bit of a brick wall in breaking past 3k dps on single targets, but that might be just a gear thing. You can have the perfect glyphs and enchants, but T7 and heroic epics will only take you so far.

25% of overall damage in a 10 man raid means there were a lot of people in the raid that were performing very poorly. Tanks are growing to be included in counting how many dps classes you have in a raid...my prot pally hit 2200dps overall for a Naxx25 run this past week. So in a standard 10-man setup with 2 tanks, 3 healers, and 5 dps, you accounted for 25% of the overall damage done by 7 players.

PUGs are PUGs.
