So I'm really digging holy now, thanks to the advice from Teacake. Mana management is no longer an issue whatsoever, and the numbers I can pump out really make me happy. I did my first 25 man (Sarth with no drakes, but we all have to start somewhere!) since BC, and it was a blast! My overheal percentage was not all that great, but considering most of it was from PoM, and I can't control where my PoM jumps, overall I think I did pretty well.

I really like GS too, although I wonder how tanks feels about it. Usually, I use it when my group takes an unexpected wave of heavy AoE. I'll throw GS on the tank and work on getting the rest of the group up, knowing that even if the tank "dies", they'll get a massive heal when it procs.

I still feel guilty every time I use it. Does the tank not notice, and think why the heck is this healer letting me die? I assume it's a bit different in raid situations, but still.

Interesting to read. I've always liked GS for both PvE and PvP... The only 'problem' with it is that when it's up, you either need to heal your tank up or he needs to 'die'. If neither happens it just feels like a waste to me.

I really use it more for the 40% healing benefit. If things are going bad and I throw out GS, it's almost always followed by a CoH, flash heal on the tank (free if CoH procced SoL), and then attending to other party members. So I doubt the tank notices anything but his health going back up. I take the free death blow as extra insurance, rather than planning around it. That's probably overly conservative.

This is coming from a paladin who's often tanking. If you cast GS on me and then hope that I "die" while it's up, I am going to LoH myself, or use a potion and a health stone before that happens.

I'm not likely to notice the wings, or even remember what it does as I watch my health go down and panic.

Yeah, that's exactly what I fear. I don't really just expect the tank to "die," I do immediately use a CoH or whatever else I can manage to prevent it. But yes, if a DPS is about to actually die (and they don't suck), I'll give them priority for the moment and take the chance.

I know when I'm tanking I'm usually concentrating on lots of things at once, to ensure the tank knows what's happening and to save his cooldowns you could always pop a macro onto the spell cast to announce it, although I hate /rw as some people tend to abuse it, I could see that being a legitimate use.
