Leveling GlyphsFollow

#1 Jan 29 2009 at 8:43 PM Rating: Decent
A little while ago i mads a post saying that I wanted to level a healer, but didnt know which to choose, you guys talked me into a priest :D and I couldnt be happier

Anyway back to the reason I made the post, what glyphs should I pickup while leveling? they all appear to be made with level 80s in mind so I was wondering if any of them are better for a leveling spec. I am shadow but I do solo/dps alot.....then again I do heal alot also :P. any input would be appreciated ;)

Thanks-

PS here is my armory link if you care

Glyph of Shadow Word: Pain (Major) is a must for Shadow Priests. It will shine a lot more once you're higher. Glyph of Shadowfiend (Minor) is a great one for when you're high enough level to get Shadowfiend (66).

I would think the glyph of PW:S would be nice for leveling too, in addition to the suggestions already made.

SW:P and PW:S should help a lot, aye.

As for Minor Glyphs, Shadowfiend doesn't help a lot since it generally doesn't get killed outside of instances. The first minor Glyph you'll want is the Fortitude one, since you will have to (re)cast the spell very often. The Glyph of Levitate is probably the second one you'll want, since Light Feathers are fairly scarce before you enter the Outlands and Levitate can speed up your progress when doing quests around water. As your third, you'd probably want Shadowfiend anyway since the choice is fairly limited.
#5REDACTED, Posted: Jan 30 2009 at 12:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It's a great glyph. Priest do not have many great minor glyphs outside Shadow Protection for the increased duration. Fortitude will lower the mana cost but that doesn't do much considering most Priests buff then drink to full.

Once you start getting into some of the harder instances, definitely. But before that point the number of times you will cast PW:F will be infinitely bigger than the number of times your Shadowfiend will be killed by damage.

Okay, I see that I've missed something rilly rilly obvious, but someone needs to explain this to me, because I don't think my Shadowfiend has ever been killed by damage. You're telling me your fiend is putting out enough DPS to get a boss's attention? Because I only ever pull it out during boss fights (those are the only fights long enough to need it) or as a free mana pot while soloing, and it's rarely pulled aggro even off my limp little smite, let alone off a tank and all those pew pew peeps. I've never quite figured out the point of the glyph.

There's two points... 1, PvP. 2, You'll like the glyph in AOE heavy raid fights. There are some bosses in naxx that deal badass amount of AOE damage through which it'll be hard (or not worth it) to heal your fiend too. Sapphiron is an brilliant example where this glyph shines. The passive AOE takes him down slowly and makes sure your fiend dies when there's about 3 or 4 seconds to go, causing close to maximum efficiency from both the fiend and the glyph.

Ah, I hadn't thought of the AOE fights. I just kind of release the fiend when I'm at 60% and don't take much note of when he dies or how much mana he's given back to me, TBH. Too busy watching those bars and lava waves and explosions and whatnot. I'm kind of like a chicken with my head cut off in raids. If the chicken had mad cow disease before the beheading.

PVP is another great point I hadn't thought of. I've never gotten into it before and only just recently started doing some battlegrounds (and what a blast!).

Thanks for the tips!

Wow, Teacake is thanking mé for tips. This feels extremely odd =P.

Eitherway, I don't seriously take note of the fiend myself either, there's usually enough on my head to keep track of him as well. It's just that I remember a fight where you're supposed to run from the AOE (I think it's that last boss in the Blood Furnace) where my fiend took the full blast and instantly died. That image never really left my mind so now I somewhat 'realize' what can happen to the poor little slimy bugger.

What glyphs are good for a 20 shadow to start with and work towards. :D

Glyph of Shadow Word: Pain, definitely. The next on the list should be Glyph of Shadow once you get shadowform, and at 80 you might want the Glyph of Mind Flay, depending on if you still solo a lot at that point or not.

SW:P and PW:S are great while leveling, along with slowfall.

I didn't know priests get slow fall. o.O I picked up SW:P glyph. What about minors. Only one I see is Glyph of SW:F for reduced mana cost.

We get levitate, and a minor glyph makes it reagent free. Also, you can now cast it on your party members, in case you all need it for a jump, or just running across water.

Thanks for clearing that up Dada. Levitate is indeed what I referred to.

I got the glyphs I will use when I heal a 5-man. Glyph of Power Word: Shield and then at 30 Glyph of Flash Heal.

Maybe I'd be better off with Glyph of Power Word: Pain for leveling.

I looked at Glyph of Levitate on the AH and it was 15g so I'm waiting on that one.

Works over those oozey rivers by Patchwerk too! Line 'em up and float them over... easier than healing them all afterwards.

Gonna try it over frogger. I don't think it will work, but worth a shot... just need a guinea pig!

What are some good healing glyphs? I'm in Northrend and hoping to heal soon. But I really can't seem to find much in the AH. I have flash heal and prayer of healing, but I don't use those spells that often. Are there any good ones I should get?

For Holy I like Circle of Healing, Flash Heal, and either Renew or Dispel. For Disc I like Flash Heal, PW:S, and either Renew or Dispel. Dispel is not widely regarded as the best choice but I love it - free instant heal ftw.
