I'm missing too many Hot Streak procsFollow

#1 Jan 28 2009 at 11:35 PM Rating: Decent
Hi All,

In my continued efforts to maximize my DPS, I have been able to identify one reason why I'm behind other mages.

I am seeing far too many Hot Streak procs in my combatlogs that aren't followed by an instant Pyroblast. I have tried just about anything I was able to to avoid missing them, but it's still happening far too often.

I am playing with game sounds, but during raids, there's just too many sounds going around and I don't always hear it when my HS procs.
I have tried standard Blizz scrolling combat text, SCT and Parrot, but still too many are missed. I am no ace at configuring these however, so there just is too much text scrolling across my screen ...

Can you guys tell me in which way you have configured your UI so that the proc doesn't go unnoticed ? If anyone has pointers on how to configure SCT or Parrot to make it put a huge "Hot Streak proc !!! Hit the Pyro, you numbskull !!!!" on my screen (possibly linked to an alarm sound that will wake up my neighbours), that would be greatly appreciated too ;-)

As always, thanks in advance for any input you can give !!

For me, it was a combination of MSBT and learning to pay attention to my buffs that got me in the habit of using my pyroblasts when they were needed.

Download Elkano's Buff Bars or Morganti Buff Bars and stare at the buff list, that and a combination of watching the screen for the Hot Streak writing helped me.

I found that using text (and to a lesser extent sound) notifications were less than ideal, as it very often blurred with all the other bits of text and sound flying around.

For that reason, I started using powerauras, it displays a graphic when the proc is available - not just the moment it proc, but for the full duration that the buff is on you. The reason this works for me is 2-fold - 1) You receive a notification that stands out from the dozens of other notifications you receive, and 2) if you missed when the proc popped, it will stay up reminding you that it's still useable.

You can choose from a number of different visuals, ranging from circular "Aura" style graphics, to icon type pics ... mine is a massive fireball graphic that splashes across my toon .. I can't miss it ... while it's there, I know I have access to an instant pyro.

Go with Power Auras.

I installed Power Auras yesterday, but have been unable to make it work :-(

I configured it as follows :
* Glow - selected the fireball icon
* increased size and placement a bit
* Activation by : Buff - filled in Hot Streak as name and put stacks to >0 (also tried with =0 and =1)

When clicking Test, it works, but when the Hot Streak actually procs, I don't get to see the icon appear.

I also tried Parrot again. Configured a new Scroll area (without any problems), but when I try to create a new trigger, it just doesn't want to save what I type as trigger (Hot Streak) ...

Anyone have any help ?

Looks fine, just make sure that the words "Hot Streak" is in the field that initially has "???" in it ... don't put the words in the "Exact Name" field.

There's actually a thread here with a screenshot of the config ... I'll look for it.

edit : the post ... called "any addons for hot streak"
The Link to the screenshot

ForteWarlock has mods for other classes now, including Mages. By far, it's the best set of timers I've used (and coming from playing an affliction 'lock in BC, I've used a *lot* of different timer mods, trying to find the right one).

(Apparently it's been renamed ForteXorcist now)

Between this and MSBT, I seldom miss a HotStreak proc unless I get two in a row on a Scorch refresh.
