Is this build OK?Follow

#1 Jan 28 2009 at 8:06 AM Rating: Decent
HI,
(ooh first pst scary ;) )
I'm currently a lvl 32 with my first WoW character. You'd probably call me a n00b, but recently I've become more interested in dungeons and, once I'm a high enough lvl, raids. I'm looking at respecing, but id like to know yor thoughts on my build at http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=IfxMbzMGo , before i spend the gold to respec again. What do you think of the build? Am I on the right track?
Thanks a lot,
ichcb

You've chosen the best spec (Affliction) for levelling and so far, although you'd be hard pressed to do anything wrong, you've spent your points well.

As you were, soldier.

Thanks for the quick reply, I have now respeced like that, I've already respeced into aflic from demo, its sooooo much faster and being able to kill things that are red to you is great! I'll leave this thread so people can still add comments/ask questions, belive it or not I was really just guessing when i came up with the build!
Thanks,
ichcb

Congrats on your first char over 30!
That aside, my level 75 Paladin offers no aid to my new Lock in funding (Ally vs Horde) nor how to play. As a Retadin I just ran in and spanked anything I wanted be it red, elite, or both. Didn't matter lol.
Now however, my Lock has died likely more times on her way to 18 than my Paladin has to 75. I'm INCREDIBLY squishy, and while I can 1v1 pretty easily with my VW, the fights are slow and boring.
Paladin I usually did 2-3 until Divine Storm, and have since only fought 4+ at a time now. As a Lock, I aggro 3 mobs? Dead in seconds unless I am fortune with Fears.

So I have to ask, how is Affliction better than Demo? I was told Demo by everyone I asked as a tool for solo play. I don't group nor do dungeons really. I just want to hit 50+ on my own time, enjoyably.

Any suggestions on how to work Afflic? Also, can I use my Succubus or no? She's why I wanted a Lock and now I'm just two levels away lol.

This is my Demo build

Basically all I do is send in VW, CoA/Corruption, then Wand/Health Funnel as needed and use Consume Shadows post fight then move on.

*edit* So, just died again. Fear basically leads to me dying, a lot more. Had 1 catlord + pet, ended up with 4 Trolls, 2 cats, and my VW had no chance without any AoE abilities. Everytime I feared or it ran from low life, it linked more -.- Advice would be fantastic.

As affliction, rather than fear, make sure all DoTs are on a mob and drain life. Typically, you can drain more than they can hit you for.

Another good strategy is to send VW on one mob, DoT it up, send him to another, DoT it, send him to another. The DoTs as affliction spec should be enough to finish them. You can then Drain Life on one if it starts hitting you, or Life Tap your mana up if you run out of mana and Drain Life your health back up on whatever the VW is hitting.

To prevent them running at low life, throw up Corse of Recklessness if you have it. Can't remember what level you learn that at though.

Thanks tons! My concern is when I get hit, Drain Life seems to drop quick and only gives me 50hp at a time right now.

I'd suggest you drop improved health funnel and add 2 more points to demonic embrace, if your finding the warlock class flimsy. What I'd usually do is send in VW, then cast dots (you can skip that bit), then just keep casting drain health. as long as your careful, aggro will stay on the VW.

P.S try and keep to 1 MOB until your VW gets suffering

If your going demon spec you want to drain hunt as you won't have the right talents to drain life while the mob is beating on you. It takes a little bit of practice but ideally you want to send you VW in to build enought threat (2, maybe 3 taunts) to handle your dots then send him on to the next mobs. If the mob does aggro you it should be dead while it's running at you or right after it reaches you. Once your dots are on you life-tap and drain health while the mob is still on your VW. The only downtime this has is your VW's mana pool which will be taken care of once you get down far enough to pick up the mana feed talent. I would suggest that when your VW runs out of mana that you summon him again, it's quicker then letting him passivly regain mana and with that many mobs down you should have gotten at least 1 shard.

Affliction is the spec with which you can drain tank. Aside from the random boost to shadow damage talents fel concentration is the big talent that makes this viable. As you noticed when you get hit it decreases the duration of drain life meaning it's bad for your mana pool and won't keep up with the damage you take. 3 points in fel concectration means you will rarely see that decrease, you don't stress your mana, and depending on what mob your facing you can actually gain life. Affliction locks can drain hunt as well, but it's just not as fun.

Beware the fear. Due to the fact that curse of recklessness no longer negates the fear effect it is alot trickier to use with many mobs around. If you do end up having to use fear and the mob looks like it'll agro more mobs try sending some shadowbolts at it as fear breaks fairly easy on damage. If the feared target does agro those mobs your best bet is to run away, especially at a low level before you have all the tricks at your disposal. Your VW can be sacrificed for a reason, use it, run away and once your safe plot your revenge.
