The question is : Why such HUGE differences in the DPS?

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Arathor&n=Kaetamoon

I was just shooting dummies checking the build (DPS) and left my 2hander on before logging off. My hit is above 8%. That being said I'm running 2.2k in 5 man, 25man 3K, and don't know about 10man.

My recount shows ES,SS,AS as my top 3 damage makers. My normal rotation is a Macro to pop everything ( pet, trinkets, rapid fire, etc) then ES>SpS>SS>SS>SS>ES. Rinse/repeat! Volley only when necessary. I see that Capra uses volley quite often and has numbers more in line with AEthien, is that something we should toss in the mix....

#1 The SV build on EJ for max DPS is different than the cookie cutter from AEthien and Rinkkel. Is that gear driven or should we switch to EJ's?

#2 Are you two (AETHIEN and RINKKEL) using a different shot rotation?
on a typical fight...

#3 I put 2 points into Hawk to speed up my SS, but no change when looking at my toon. I have the glyph and know that it is a CHANCE to increase, but is Haste the only other answer to increase speed for me?

The gear seems similar with a few differences, BUT 2-3K DPS different, NOWAY!Everyone always gives great advice on here, so I'm looking forward to the responses.

P.S. My future gear will be T7 chest, Helm and shoulders 5man and Darkmoon trinket (waiting on fair).

Thanks in advance...

You seem to be doing just fine. I only run a little over 3k normal dps for the raid in 25 mans. Patchwerk is a simple stand shoot fight so I get decent numbers for that. Loetheb is another fight where you just stand there and shoot, your crit get blown through the roof which is fun. But I usually am only around 4-4.5k on most bosses.

Here are some thigns I do.
*I use a shot macro:
#showtooltip Steady Shot
/script UIErrorsFrame:UnregisterEvent("UI_ERROR_MESSAGE");
/cast Kill Shot
/cast [target=pettarget, exists] <insert pet action here>*
/cast Steady Shot

*I dont have anythign for the pettarget line and therefore omited it from my operational macro. This is nice because it will prioritize Kill Shot over steady shot. I have also found it to be easy to simple bind this macro to a key. Then, as needed I weave in Serpent sting, Aimed shot, Multi if there are a few there, and Explosive shot.

*When lock and load is trigered place a steady in between ES's, this way their tick of damage will not overwrite each other and you will get the full benefit from them.

*I have a very similar spec to what EJ mentions, I have a few points elsewhere but nothign huge.

For you, i would recommend gettin gyour hit rating capped without the use of careful aim. That way you can send those three points somewhere useful. Other than that, you dont have Aimed Shot, it is a nice instant shot to use since ES takes away arcane shot. I would pick it up and use it everytime you can. It will drain your mana faster but the new viper refills my 15k raid mana pool in seconds. If we have a ret who is useing Wisdom I dont every run OOm even when I spam aimed and all my specials.

the first page on the ej forums thread may not be current. The builds like aethiens and mine are also mentioned in the thread later on.

getting hawk and the glyph won't change anything on your character sheet unless it procs. Go shoot at a target dummy and then look at your sheet.

The builds mentioned in EJ's top dps thread are top dps for stand and shoot fights.
I use 1/18/52 which performs better in fights where you have to move.

I know that the "stand and shoot" fights are sometimes criticized with the idea that "we can't simply do that in all fights" but with extremely few exceptions, what works in the "stand and shoot" situations will also work in a "shoot an' scoot" as well.
Your damage will ultimately be less in these for obvious reasons but the build is still solid.

Usually yes, but not in this case.
The build I use has Aimed shot, the 6/14/51 build doesn't it uses Multi.
Now for stand ad shoot fights that won't matter, but for fights where you are moving a lot that extra instant helps.
The less points in Hawk aren't very great for fights where you're moving either, while imp. stings always helps.

I would add to the rotation advice, when LnL procs - refresh serpent sting between explosives if it is getting close to falling off and aimed > steady between explosives if it is not on cooldown.
