Hunter needs HelpFollow

#1 Jan 27 2009 at 7:00 AM Rating: Default
I have been playing a hunter for sometime and it has been in a casula setting, I am starting to want to raid and get some heroics done, but the problem that I have is that my DPS is way to low. I am averaging about 12-1500 and we know that is not good enough.

I need help with Shot Rotation and also help with a build. I am currently a BM Hunter but not locked into it. I have some pretty cool pets but nothing that I will not get rid of.

Please someone help. I want to raid, so I need dps.....

I am using a "standard 3:2" macro and cd's for my rotation, but it looks like that is the way of the past,

any help on macro's on spec on anything would be much appreciated

thanks again

a perplexed and frustrated hunter

We can help best if you link to your armoury (or give char name and server).

Firstly ditch you old macro, you can just use steady shot normally now as they're unlinked, might give you a nice dps boost.

Build wise, it'll depend on what you have at the moment.
The hunter raid thread has some good cookie cutter builds, you could try one of those (all three specs covered).

I'm willing to bet all of your questions could be answered in the first 10 or so posts on here.

I have read most of the post and honestly I am a real newbie and trying to comprehend all that there is about the game etc.... thank you for your suggestion of rereading them, I will go back and look at them again.

my hunter is name fredworth and he is on Khaz Modan server. How do I link my profile ?

thanks again, sorry for being such a noob

You can link to the armory like this:

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Khaz+Modan&n=Fredworth

Firstly, hit rating.
You should be at around 8-9% hit rating to not miss.
I think another problem may be your talent build.
Although the 55/16/0 you have might make dailies and questing easier, it's not optimum for dps.

Agree. I was BM and now have switched, Post Nerf Bat, to Survival. It is still very viable for solo'ing and the best pet according to calculations by others is the wasp, although the flying and in your face-ness is annoying so I have opted for next best, or equal best depending on raid buffs and sham's, the Raptor.

Make the change, and you sound a little more than your average casual player having got rotations and the like already in your workings. Most 'casual' just spam one shot and spend any and all gold in the AH on pointless upgrades in my experiance but then it is each to their own and how they wish to play that brings them enjoyment.

So give Survival a go. Look at Aethiens posts on the DPS topic. He might be a wee tad full of himself sometimes but Aethien, without a doubt, is the single biggest reason I out DPS'd my class leader last night on Malygos, although that was not a problem on the second attempt as he was spark watching for us, a neat tactic that works well to get them stacked Smiley: nod

Good luck to you and hope you enjoy raiding and heroics as much as I do. It is only a month now since I have been entering them and it has opened a whole new WoW world to me. Big, massive repsect to the guild that took me on Smiley: grin

*Repsect? what the hell is repsect? oh well I will leave the typo in for fun Smiley: lol

It's 8% hitrating, not 8-9.

I too made the Survival jump from BM and I'm still leveling. I freaking love it. Shooting things from 41 yards away is AWESOME. I of course pull threat from my pet almost immediately but the mob dies at my feet most of the time. I should drop my cat for a wasp/raptor but spot has been with me since I was about level 15.

For levelling SV I'd go with a gorilla, not only are they multi target threat kings their threat on single targets (with thunderstomp) is also the highest I've found.

All I have to say is what the heck happened to cats. Anyways. Zebug answered the question that has been weighing in my mind about survival. Pulling hate off the pet. But if the mob drops dead at your feet.....then whats there to worry about. Elites...I remember when soloing the elite quests in outlands was a breeze. Don't know if i'd be able to now after the patch. How well does survival do against elites that the hunter is so famous for taking down while watching a movie lol.

well I easily solo'd the elites in this quest as survival:

With the instant shots like explosive shot, aimed shot, and kill shot. Kiting these elites was simple. Throwing down a frost trap to activate Lock and Load as well as help kiting made it stupidly easy.
