Hey Guys,

Need some advice. I've noticed that my Threat is somewhat lacking. By that I mean I usually max out in group around 3000-3500 when I peak and average on cooldowns around 2-2500. I'm using the heroic 1hs weapon. Just a blue. heres my dilema.

I've been farming UP for red sword of Courage but with no luck. I'm on my 10th run and no luck. I dont need the defense rating othe then just boosting my avoidance. My issuse is that I was thinking of making the Titansteel Bonecrusher for the DPS/stats. But my only concern is that it is 2.5swing time. How important is weapon speed? My main concern is just threat. If I group with an elemental Shammy their spike dmg usually is hard to keep agro off of them. WHAT is the best sword for agro?

Or am I just screwin up my rotation. To be honest I dont have a perfect rotation.
I have from 1 to 5

JoL-HotR-Cons-HolyShield-SoR. They arent in the best order only because my fingers are just used to where they are at. Can some people give me an idea what their rotations are?

So to sum it all up cause I know I threw a bunch of stuff out there. Could the weapon be the problem? My rotation? Or is it just the downside to a pally?

I've never had a problem with threat after hitting 80. You need to post your armory and what your rotation is. Pally rotation is pretty straightforward. If you mash whatever isn't on CD you can generate threat. LOL! Just keep farmin the sword, you'll get it.

I still use my Titansteel Bonecrusher, and there's not a tank in our guild who can match me for threat (with the exception of one of our DKs who likes to throw up Frost Presence in dps gear as though his threat generation is the same as it would be in tanking gear.) Most of your threat is coming from your yellow attacks, and even though you stack Seal of Vengeance slower with a slower weapon, the threat difference is trivial. You make up for any threat difference (and then some) with much larger HotR hits (which also stack seals on all targets they hit). I crit up to 5k HotR in 25-mans...that's a lot of threat from one attack. Throw in SoR and Consecrate and you're squared away.

My rotation is usually AS to pull, Holy Shield, Consecrate, HotR as soon as three mobs are in range, Judge, SotR, and then work my rotation as things come off cooldown, prioritizing Holy Shield first, then Judgement, then SotR, then HoR, and finally Consecrate. Versus undead, I'll throw in a Holy Wrath off the pull for a bit of extra threat and toss in an Exorcism if I get any gaps in my rotation.

I'm often running upwards of 7k tps in heroic Naxx these days despite the nerf to JoL threat. You won't see those kinds of numbers outside of 25-man raids simply because you won't have access to all the buffs that make it possible, but for heroics I normally do 4-5k threat depending on the situation.

Your max threat cycle is going to be a '969' rotation. Meaning you alternate a long cd with a short one. Basically you want no 'dead-time' in your cycle where you aren't doing something. This is why 95% of tanking specs include just 1/2 in imp judgements as using judgement 1sec earlier actually messes up your optimum rotation. Complete info on the topic can be found at maintankadin.

As to best weapon, use the highest dps wpn you can find. Slower doesn't mean bigger HotR hits, so use the highest dps 1hand wpn you can get your hands on regardless of spd. Keep plugging away at H UP, the sword will drop eventually, think it took me 15 or so runs:(

Also if you're having trouble doing 2.5k+ threat make sure you have imp RF and that you always have it on. Could be you're doing just fine for the gear/spec you have as well, without an armory link its hard to know for sure.

**was specced 2/2 imp judgements for add duty on Sarth+3 last night in case you checked my armory:)

Hah, I just havent been able to figure out how to link. Not very technically knowledgable. I dont do 2500tps, I only do that when Im sitting on some CD's waiting to strike again. I usually will hit around 3500 but I run into dps classes that can peak at over 4000. I have the mats to do a Titansteel bonecrusher today, but god i'd hate to make that and then boom RSoC drops. That would really suck! Player name is Jydinian on Mal'Ganis if you want too look up the Armory since I am stupid and Dont know how to link.

Your spec could use a little work. 5/5 SotP in Holy will boost your judgement damage a bit. Reckoning and Stoicism are pretty much wasted talent points for a raid tank, in my opinion. Benediction is so-so at best. You shouldn't be having mana issues at this point. Drop a point from Imp. Judgements to make Judgement fit better in to your rotation.

Other than that, your gear looks OK (assuming you don't usually wear that frost resist body piece and have a tanking body with useful stats on it, of course :).

Look in to some different raid tanking specs and consider how you can maximize your rotation (the 96969 rotation really does make a marked difference).

Really? I dropped Reckoning for Ardent Defender as soon as I hit 80th, but I picked up 3/3 Stoicism. Stoicism can help to avoid more time without Holy Shield, or any other cast for that matter.

Lower stun duration is nice and all, but there are so many talents that are far more worthy of the points. Honestly, you don't spend a ton of time stunned, and unless it happens right at the start of a pull, it's usually not a huge deal (your DPS are all watching their threat, right? ;).

I'd much rather cut the CD of HoP, HoJ, or even putting points in to DG (nice for an OT in certain situations).

Stoicism has its merits, and in a world where I could take whatever I felt would be genuinely usefel I would certainly take it. I find there's just more to be had from other talents. Even if your circumstances don't require you to take Kings there's really more out there.

yes I do wear the Iceguard mainly because At the time I never had an option for upgraded chest piece with decent STA and bonus to avoidance. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get a Drop in naxx on thursday. I'm more then willing to lose a few thousand HP to pick up on avoidance. I'll probably replace Essence of Gossamer with the Badge Trinket +80somthin to Dodge Rating. no I generally dont have problems with mana except in lower difficulty heroics. I dont take all that much dmg and the healer doesnt have to heal as much so i'm not getting that much healing mana. I was thinking of going through and re-evaluating my spec.

There are plenty of good blue chest pieces available as rep/quest rewards and instance drops. Purple doesn't always mean better.

Just be careful.

Bless Sanc, pull more mobs, cast DP every time it's off CD. Mana problem gone. :)

You end up sacrificing around 25-30 Defense (depending on what Blue chest you choose, the main competition all has mid-high 70s in Defense and the Icebane can be considered 48) in favor of around 600 more HP by taking the Icebane. Most of the blues also have a healthy bit of strength on them, and possibly another stat -- again, depending on which you take. While it's certainly an acceptable piece, especially since you can just buy it, it's somewhat poor in terms of character planning.

The belt on the other hand is superior to anything easily obtained until the badge belt.

Even then -- good on you for at least having one. Yes, put together resist sets -- even though I encourage picking up a nicer general tanking chest you don't have to worry about grabbing a resist chest at the last minute when you might need it.

I'll be going to naxx on thursday and If for whatever reason no Chest pieces drop i'll probaby end up just buying it through my badges. I know I have a few things I fix which I'll bw orking on. HP isnt the endall be all but when I made the chest piece my HP was really low and I used it to boost up my hp. At the time I wasnt sacraficing any avoidance because my old blue chest didnt have any. Now that I have the options to get some decent Chest i'm going to lose all that hp /cry!

It was just a bandaid basically until i got something better!

It took me a gazillion runs to get my RSoC. Pala healers in my guild had it before me simply because the tank in their runs didn't need it etc. In fact, I've been to UP 19 or 20 times now (I think) and it's only dropped that one time. 25-49% my ***.

Anyhow, threat has not been an issue to me, so I can't see why I would chose a non tanking weapon just to get a little more threat. I'm doing 5k+ threat on 10 mans and I don't even check on 25 mans since like I say I've never had problems holding aggro.
