And I spam Holy Light and proud of it!!!

Did my first Obsidion Sactum(sp) run yesterday and on a trash pull that got out of hand a little, I spammed HL til the cows came home, on everyone(tank/OT mostly) and everything....even I was amazed at my mana regening, granted I did have to pot once but that was at the end and most mobs were downed by then. A few 16k crits also help, but loving my new pally stuffs.

That is all.

I have seen a few times people say that the new thing paladins should be doing is spamming holy light instead?

I went holy for Naxx this weekend, and with the shield giving crit to Flash of Light, I used that almost exclusivey, just Holy light if things started getting dicey. It seemed to work better for me and my mana lasted literally forever.

I can't justify the massive overhealing and waste of mana for spamming HL. No one in my raids takes that much damage. Maybe because we usually bring 3 healers for 10's, 7 for 25's.

The only times I ever do that are on heroic Patchwerk if a tank dies or Razuvious if the taunts aren't timing right. It's just overkill anywhere else.

But on that Patchwerk note, yeah.. 10k raw healing per second for about 2 minutes before the tanks just got squished. It was a bag pug, and when I checked the healing meter, I has 50% of the healing out of 6 healers. We can do some crazy stuff.

Well, I don't normally spam HL, and as our little guild is getting very nicely geared I'm healing a little less. But this turned out to be a bad pull and from what I remember(quite a few mobs) and a rain of firey rocks were coming down upon us, so everyone was taking damage, so I started spamming HL and in between putting Beacon on the tanks and clothie healer. It was stressful and exciting all at once, the fear of OOM, the impending wipe...we all managed to pull it off though.

We also attempted Naxx again this week, with more guildies and although a bit of a rough go with the patch disconnects and isp issues for some, I came in #1 in healing, easily 200k ahead of the priest in our group.
(granted healing meters are subjective and lean towards useless)

The better geared and experienced your raid is (especially the tanks), the less HL spam is necessary, at least in a 3/10 or 7/25 setup. When you start going for achievements and/or dropping a healer, it regains usefulness (from what I hear). If you're running with your guild's less-geared raid team, and it's melee-heavy to boot, the ability to throw constant glyphed HL for a significant amount of time can be a literal (toon) lifesaver.

As for overheal, I don't worry about it as long as I don't run OOM. If I can keep the HS tank up until Patchwerk's enrage timer, does it matter? Sometimes a scalpel is the best tool for the job, but most of the time I feel safer with a cleaver...

That said, since one of our hunters respecced SV after the patch and can provide Replenishment (we have a grand total of 0 shadow priests and 0 pallies mainspecced ret), I mix FoL and HL about evenly on most bosses and never get below 80% - but when the OT loses control of adds and chaos reigns, it's nice to know that I can do HL back-to-back for a solid minute, then go back to my normal rotation when control is re-established.

My guild just cleared arachnid 10man this weekend, I was very fortunate and picked up sword/chest/gloves/trinket on the runs. I typically used FoL until an enrage or extra damage was done. I don't think I really needed to use CDs or HL too much....just when i wanted everyone topped off before a big fight sequence.
We cleared it up to Heirad(sp?) in plague quarter, but it was the first time doing 'the dance' and with the latencies lately, we gave up after 6 wipes.

You only need 6 healers tops for 25 man content. One of the changes from Burning Crusade raiding, bringing a 7th is a wasted slot that would be better spent with a DPS.

As you gear up Holy Light should becoming more of a consistent part of your rotation. In fact looking at Holy Paladin T7 itemization it is quite clear that is the direction Blizzard is trying to force us in. Badge libram, four piece T7 bonus, Seal of Wisdom etc. It is plainly clear that Blizz wanted to break paladins away from FoL spam.

As it stands right now the avg boss fight sees 35-45% Holy Light, with the remainder being split between FoL and Holy Shock.

FoL will be used to top people off who are sitting at 80% health and just need a little heal to make sure they don't get caught with spike damage and killed from something they could survive at full health.

Holy Shock should be used quite frequently to top off anyone who just took spike damage, since it is instant and can either lead to instant FOL or nearly instant Holy Light. It covers 15-20% of healing most fights for me. Nothing like an instant 8-9k heal proccing a .4 second Holy Light for a clutch heal on that person about to die.

Holy Light is your big stick. As you start to get a feel for the fights this will become your best friend. Anytime splash damage and spike damage is incoming you will have this queued up and ready to spam as if your life depended on it. In conjunction with Beacon it can lead to an some of the heaviest healing available, which makes surviving easier. Hell on 3 drakes it was 56% of my healing with Beacon and Holy Shock being the rest and FoL being less than 10%.

Right now you should be feeling out fights, anticipating spike damage or watching your timers for spike damage type moves and have HL read. Spend some time getting good at cancelling HL cast to save mana and also get a feel for how much you can spam and when you should pop pots or divine plea or even divine illumination so you get the best bang for you buck.
