Pretty straightforward - what kind of stat food do you normally cook for tanking?

Blackened Dragonfin. Recipe calls for two dragonfin angelfish and one northern spices. As I am catching angelfish, I also get a lot of bonescale snappers for Snapper Extreme, and Musselback sculpin for Poached Northern Sculpin, which I sell and use, respectively. Yeah, 40 str is better than 80 ap, but that one also calls for dragonfin angelfish (just one, though), so I stick with 80 ap and 40 agility for dps and tanking, respectively. For that matter, 40 agi may be better than 40 str for dps, but, again, I am not so concerned that I will spend twice the time fishing for food, instead of just happening to be able to cook dps food from stuff I happen to catch while getting tank food.

I have been using Rhinolicious Wyrmsteak for tanking. I might switch to blackened dragonfin, since it seems easier to farm mats for.

It was blackened dragonfin (+40 agi/sta), but I'm wondering if that Agi stacks with Horn of Winter/Strength of Earth. As most buffs do not, I'm thinking of changing to Whinolicious Wyrmsteak (40 expertise/stamina).

I too use the Rhinolicious Wyrmsteak (when I tank). My fishing is way too low to use the others and I'm not going to buy the mats on the AH because in my opinion they are way over priced. I don't agree that the mats for the Wyrmsteak is hard to farm for. But then being a leatherworker I'm farming for leather from wyrms and rhinos anyway.

For DPS I use either Spiced Wyrm Burger (+40 crit) or the new Worg Tartare (+40 hit).

I've been using Blackened Dragonfin . If the buff turns out to not stack with Horn of Winter/Strength of Earth then I will switch to Rhinolicious Wyrmsteak or Snapper Extreme depending on my level of expertise.

Just seems wrong to use a pole.

Actually, you can do that in bear form - you just need to learn the skill from the bears near the stream in Grizzly Hills. Smiley: wink

Thanks for input - rate up for everyone and double rate up for the photoshop link. Smiley: lol

As for expertise, that stat always confused me - WTF does it do for anyone?

TL;DR: It's like hit but for dodge/parry.

http://www.wowwiki.com/Expertise_rating wrote:
Introduced in patch 2.3 to replace Weapon Skill, each point of expertise will reduce the chance that a mob will dodge or parry your melee attacks by 0.25%.

Note that there is a difference between "expertise" and "expertise rating". Expertise rating is typically gained from item bonuses, and for each 3.92 expertise rating you equip, you gain 1 expertise at level 70.[citation needed] Expertise is typically gained from talents, and for each 1 point of expertise you reduce your chance to be dodged/parried by 0.25%. Thus it takes exactly 32.79 expertise rating at level 80 to reduce your chance to be dodged/parried by 1%.

Expertise is of two-fold use to tanks. First, by reducing the target's avoidance, it improves a tank's threat generation (more of his attacks will land). More importantly, because mobs may attack more quickly after parrying an attack, expertise reduces the total damage that the tank may receive by reducing the chance that his target parries. The increase in attack speed varies (from 0-40% of the speed of the parried attack), and can stack if multiple attacks are parried in rapid succession, leading to a potential source of massive burst damage.

... Early numbers show a 32.78 gain for 1 dodge, which means an 8.2 Expertise Rating per point of Expertise.

I use the Agi/Sta food for tanking and the Str/Sta food for DPS. I'm expertise capped so exp food is useless. Hit food might be OK, but point for point, Str is better according to Rawr & Tossk. I'd only use it if there was none of the right ingredients on the AH for the others.

I can understand people not having leveled their fishing, but not having cooking is silly - it is cheap & easy to level and saves you a lot of money on consumables. The ingredients are almost without fail a LOT cheaper than the finished product on the AH.

See, the potential problem is that these buffs don't stack with Strength of Earth/Horn of Winter. I don't know if that's true or not. If it is, then you're exactly right. Also, not sure if you can be expertise capped; discussion online has led me to believe you need around 400 expertise rating to negate parry (dodge is lower).

I can see that for an alt or someone who just recently got into the game, but only just barely.

While old school fish weren't all that useful for eating, they were the easiest/only way to get cooking to 300 and cooking was still useful even back then (but very profitable for AHing to alchies).

Come Outlands, fishing got real useful for eating fish (spicy crawdad anyone?) as well as fishing out motes of water.

With the xpac, fishing still stayed useful for cooking, although not so useful for tradeskill anymore except for alchemy.

Strength of Earth & Horn of Winter don't stack with each other but the food definitely does work with both. I know that Strength & Agi Scrolls didn't stack with the buffs (but they do with food), but I had a feeling that I saw that was changing - ie. the scrolls would stack with anything. I know that Protection Scrolls didn't stack with MotW as they seemed to drop continuously while I was leveling :)

I had fishing high enough to fish anywhere in Outlands, but never used it much for farming. I leveled alts and had BladesEdge, Netherstorm & SMV worth of quests to make heaps of money on buying the crawdad etc. My cooking has always been leveled. I've been working on the fishing again so I can fish any pools I happen to be traveling past (and I have been sneaking into Ironforge to try and fish up Old Ironjaw with no luck so far).

Horde. Preferably fresh, non-80 horde that don't stand a chance.

So tasty.
