What am I doing wrong?Follow

So, I changed from disc to holy. I'm having awful mana issues, way way worse than when I was disc, and I'm finding I have trouble healing heroics that I was breezing through before. Here is my character info:

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Blackrock&n=Moseliah

I'm currently saving up badges for the belt, which should help a bit.

My healing strategy so far is to wait for the tank to take a little dmg, then renew > FH (repeat as necessary) > PoM if group is taking some dmg > FH > GH if the tank takes a spike (meanwhile watching the HP drop as the cast goes on and on) > switch targets and FH > rinse and repeat. I toss out renews on the group when they take damage as well.

I'm not using my shield as much, and it doesn't seem to help much anyway. I have a feeling my trouble is using FH too much. I tried the GH cancel cast macro, but I was cancelling the casts too much accidentally. CoH does such a piddly amount of healing, and PoH takes sooooooooo long to cast. Pennance is such an amazing spell, and got me out of so many tough spots.

Any ideas? I know it's hard to judge without watching, but I'm hoping I'm just missing something obvious.

And can I just say, I got dragged into a Nax run with some overgeared folks that didn't care my SP was below requirements. I protested that I wasn't ready, and didn't know any of the fights, but didn't want to seem like a wuss. It was the most horrid night I can remember.

Out of curiosity, why did you switch to Holy? If Disc was a more fun playstyle for you, there shouldn't be any reason it's not viable.

That said, your regen looks a little low to me. Disc priests really don't need to prioritize Spirit as high as Holy priests do so you'd probably feel that when making the switch. A little more Spirit would probably help.

A huge key to mana management for Holy is taking advantage of Surge of Light and Holy Concentration procs. Are you sure you're using them every time? When a lot is going on they can be easy to miss. I've got a mod called ThankGod that sends down a robotic voice straight out of an alien movie to tell you when you get a proc, so you can't miss the free heal (you also get a screen aura in the color of our choice). Pairing those up with Inner Focus can keep you out of the 5SR for a long time. I eat Spiced Wyrm Burgers to buff up my crit in raids for this very reason. CoH and PoM both have a chance to crit on every target, and you'd be surprised how often those stack up.

I do play Disc so I may be wrong on this but my understanding is that Holy tends towards more mana issues than Disc and with that in mind it is better to use the more mana efficient GHeal than FHeal. To make this more efficient still you can set it up with a stopcast macro and cancel cast to avoid overhealing. You can find said macro in Moz's sticky.

Again I am not a Holy priest so if I've got this wrong Tea or one of our other Holy's please correct me.

As usual, Teacakes' advice is wonderful!

ThankGod is really helping me. To be honest, I wasn't really paying attention to surge or HC. I've gotten the hang of it more. Mana isn't as much of an issue, although 5mans are very different than raids. Long strings of heals with no crits are painful, though >.<
