If I were to go Priest...Follow

#27 Jan 31 2009 at 8:00 AM Rating: Good
Let me put it this way: If EJ says it's so, it's so. Those guys don't claim anything until it's been tested to death, and then tested a few more times for good measure. And their data stockpiles on such things are beyond anything I've ever seen when it comes to statistics and experimentation. All Matte has proven is that he's a moron who'll stick with his failed theories long after they've been disproven repeatedly.

Just ratedown and move on, no point dignifying his drivel with replies anymore.

A couple questions I hope you can clear up. I would like to try out a Blood Elf Priest. I find though, that a lot of the early quests involve closely positioned enemies that may be difficult to take down. If I can not find anyone to group with, is there a way to take them on by myself. Also, what I was wondering is how effective soloing with a priest before shadowform is. I found one of my friends is a mage and he says not to even bother with a mage because they can never compare to a mage in pve or pvp.

Leveling with a priest up until Shadowform really sucked. I usually leveled through this stage by just doing instances, either healing or DPS. The only thing I liked, was I could heal while fighting, it not be a hindrance.

I was looking up mages and I saw a level 76 paladin taken down by a level 80 frost mage in under 12 seconds. So is what he says about the comparison true? I was hoping some of you priests could help me thanks.

This isnt a comparison. Priests are priests, and mages are mages. They are not alike, other than they are ranged casters. Priests are more like moonkin than mages, if I had to compare casters.
Also, I can kill paladins and mages as a priest. They are not difficult, when you can do some of the same things they can, and dispel their shields.

every class can solo. I'm levelling a holy priest. I'm level 63 now. And it's surprisingly easy (I was actually hoping for more of a challenge- the xp made things too easy and I'm quickly losing interest in the game). Mobs are not close together. I don't know where you heard that. As long as you are careful, should be no problem. Only place I got nailed tonight was the bird guys in HFP, the named one has really fast respawn times, and he respawned right behind me when I was out of mana. Other than that, holy priest has been very easy- just lots of drinking...

'bout time. If Moz reports on the weather in Elwynn Forest, I rate it up. The author of the sticky ought to be a scholar. Smiley: nod

You have no idea what you've done. Today is the beginning of my disc empire *wicked laugh*.
If I don't lose the rating due to multiple sub-defaults in the general forum, that is.

But we're pulling this off track.

Edit: Profit. I'm killing myself right now =')

On a related question (seeing as this thread has turned into a discussion of healing), healed my first instance (since gnomer early last year lol- that was a disaster) in a long time. I'm really getting into my priest. and I think I like priest healing. I wasn't perfect, I'm used to healing on my shammy, but I think I did pretty good. Only went OOM in ramaparts on the 1st boss when the DK tank pulled him accidently along with the 3 trash mobs. So we had 6 mobs total. Tank eventually died when I went oom, but the enhance shammy had insane dps and downed him.

I think I did good, but you guys talk about using certain tricks. But you don't say what those tricks are. :). Or is it just something that comes with experience. I mainly want to ask about bubble. I didn't use it much. I tried using it at the start of a fight, but quickly found out that draws aggro lol. Blew my fade, and didn't have it when I drew aggro later in that fight. Did I mention 90% of DK tanks are absolutely horrible? Right now my shield is tied to my V key, but that can be hit sometimes when my index fingers are on the 1,2,3 and 4 keys. When should I shield? and how often? It doesn't seem like it's that mana efficient. I seemed to like not casting and allowing mana regen, and then heal when they are about halfway. But this can be dangerous if things go wrong and there is lots of aoe damage.

Speaking of aoe damage I have circle of healing, that is pretty good. Doesn't heal alot. I have prayer of healing, long cast time, bu heals a sh*tton. When do I use holy nova? It seems to be pretty similar to circle of healing, I can't see much use for it unless circle is on c/d.

In any case, I don't see how levelling shadow will help my healing as mentioned. But maybe it will help teach mana efficiency. But even as holy, I can't just go blowing all my cool healing spells any time I want to. I still try to keep myself in the 5 sec mana regen. Shadow priests aren't my thing, when I think of priests I think of light- not some dark thing where I can't see my toon very well.

Holy Nova is what you use to farm lowbie instances or boost people. Other than that, it's mostly just a nifty PvP feature which allows you to unstealth Rogues/Druids. Well, that's my personal view of Holy Nova, anyway. Sometimes it can be a decent spell in an AoE situation, as it will help heal the other AoE happy people while doing a little bit of damage as well.

As for the Shield, it's a very basic thing. It's the skill you use when you want to buy yourself those extra two seconds of casttime so you can get that Gheal off. (On tanks, that is) Or to keep that DPS class alive in AoE while Renew ticks them back up. If you've glyphed it, it even becomes an extra instant cast heal (which can crit too) which helps you get someone back on their feet during an enrage or just heavy incoming damage.

Fun thing? That scales with Spellpower.

Edit: And for fuck's sake, format that signature. Or just make it say "List of incredibly long e-peens".

As Holy I don't use either shield or Holy Nova much for PVE healing. They're more Disc priests' tricks. :) But Shield is still a good tool for the uses AI mentions. When there's heavy AoE damage, shield and renew the tank, Circle of Healing, (free flash heal on tank), Prayer of Healing.

Circle of Healing is a fluffy chocolate cupcake of goodness, frosted in awesome. Glyph for it and you have 6 chances to crit with one instant cast. If you go into an instance or raid with 20% Holy crit, more times than not this amounts to a free Surge of Light or Holy Concentration proc every 6 seconds. Those instant Flash Heals are particularly wonderful, but both are nice for mana management anyhow. Keep your PoM up all the time for this same reason. It can crit on each bounce. And don't forget it's an instant heal as well.
