Destro Locks and RotationFollow

#1 Jan 21 2009 at 9:28 AM Rating: Decent

Just wondering what rotation you guys have been using on your Destro Locks? I'm thinking about re-speccing due to lag issues.

Jeno I see you have been trying it out lately too. How has your build treated you and what DPS are you pumping out?

if by lately, you mean starting today due to the patch, then yeah i'm using it :P in terms of dps... no idea yet. haven't done a raid yet (should be tonight).

rotations ways..

keep CoA, corruption and immolate up constantly.
use conflagorate whenever it's up (i presume you've read the change to the conflagorate glyph)
use chaos bolt whenever it's up
spam incinerate inbetween

pretty much it. in terms of an actual 'rotation' haven't tried any variations yet but those 4 things about are all you have to do

with the new glyph of Conflag change, i beleive it's something like:

CoA > Corr > Immo > Conflag > CB > Immo

Cast Conflag/CB whenver it's up, refresh all DoTs as they wear off, Incin is Filler.

Thanks guys, appreciate your help. Had an idea but just wanted some backup.

actually you'll cast CB first. you want it always on CD.

I also just read something over at the warlock den. Never cast Conflag right after Immo as it may not be counting Immo as up on the target yet.

Leaving us with:

CB > CoA > Immo > Corr > Conflag > Incin

CB when it's off CD, Conflag when it's up, refreshing DoTs, Spammin Incin in between.

doing some sick damage, topping the damage meters in naxx. currently top dps i've done is around 4k, but we've yet to do patchwerk, shall post what i achieve there (oh, everything i manage is without food or flask, to lazy this raid :P)

POST EDIT

600dps on patchwerk!!!

lol, to elaborate... i managed to cast 1 spell before pulling hate, dieing + like the 3 other top dps dieing at the same time. lol. turns out the hunter 'forgot' to MD and the OT didn't bother to run in... lol, they still downed him annoyingly.. so will have to wait till next week.. but i think i'd have pushed something around 4.5k, and that'd be without flask and **** :)

I really like this spec, its fun to play.

However jenova I see that you have specced into Improved soul leech, would 5 points in improved corruption up your dmg or is the extra mana a neccessity to prevent damage loss and healer strain due to excessive life tap?

your imp could/will run dry, also it's surprising how much difference imp.soul-leach makes, feels like i'm lifetapping les than as afliction. 2% of maximum mana... well for me works out as quite a bit in a raid as i have like 21-22k mana when buffed, so i get back around 400 mana every proc :)

POST EDIT

check my armory, got a load of sick upgrades in this raid :) got 2 pieces of valorous (legs and chest) bringing me up to the 4set :) and dying curse :D bringing me up to 368 hit, or the 14% hit cap :D (which is what i need for this spec. had to many afliction spells resisting for my liking.. lol)

POST POST EDIT

just decided to go attack a dummy for a bit, only self buffs with my new gear. was holding steady at about 3.2k dps. so mix in raid buffs and we're definately looking at something over 4.5k :) destro has, imo, become equal (or maybe better.. haven't had time to properly test) than afliction ^^....one thing that is for certain though is it's alot more fun and pvp viable :D

did just realise i done this without the firestone enchant.. so add a small amount of dps ontop.. like 50 or so i think.

I'm still only geared for 5 mans at this stage and went imp corr for the dmg in short fights and added dmg on trash from SoC helps boost my numbers when pugging. Makes me feel less carried when running with a druid and dk.

I will try the leech and compare the dmgs

Ok, as I have a rather different spec which doesn't include CB (to cut down on the rotation for faster critting Incins) my rotation was:

CoA > Corr > Imm > Incin (Conflag on last tick of Immo)

It's fast, very fast and very easy to manage on the tricker (ie, you have to move) boss fights. And it puts out 3k dps easily. More on Patchwerk, though I concede a spec with CB in will probably do more if you can stand still for ten minutes.

Now I will be doing:

CoA > Immo > Corr > Conflag > Incin and repeat as ticks/CDs occur.

When Blood Lust is popped...1.5 sec Incinss with 25% crit is IMMENSE and you don't have to worry about DoTs if you time it right.

chaosbolt does more damage and at a lower cast time than incinerate... AND it got a 20% base damage buff... i've no idea why you decided to go without it... heck it's not even tough to use.. just press it whenever it's off CD

I think I explained that...

I could really use some help in this area. Pre-WOTLK i was a 20/40 lock, like 90% of locks and switched to Afflic for WOTLK. Doing 25 man Naxx with only 1600 dps is frustrating and it seems alot of locks are now switching to destro again. Can you guys give me some advice based on gear and build. I would love to get back to destro and burst damage, but am I ready with my gear? Im at work so unfortunately I am blocked for the WOW site, I have to ask you to armory me on your own – acheronscs – (sorry about that) and I would love any input you guys can give me. I know my hit is low but Im working on it. Thank you in advance for any help.

1600 dps as Affliction - I'm guessing you're including your time on trash in that.

Look at boss fights only. It should be much, much higher. Like - 2k minimum, even with bad gear? Which, if you have it, means you aren't ready for Naxx 25 anyway. Are you hit capped too?

Anyway...play what you enjoy and try to ignore Jenovamega as much as possible... ;o)

I dont really have "bad" gear. Some Naxx 25 peices, bad trinkets and blue weapon but thats it. I might be looking at overall plus trash. Good point. I might jsut as well try destro for my 10 man Naxx tonight and see what happens.

Inoperate, your rotation, minus conflag, sounds more like a FG/Emberstorm rotation. If you want the fast hard hitting Incinerates, try it out. Pet management isn't bad at all really. There's a couple fights where I just sac him for +Dmg and Mana Regen though, it hurts DPS a little, but Life Tap less. It will probably do more damage than a Destr w/o CB build. The FG himself puts up nearly 1000 DPS in my gear.

Especially with the lag we've had in Naxx lately, this is the best spec for me. Even though my screen doesn't move for 2-3 seconds sometimes, I can just spam Incin and still do good. With DoTimer and counting in my head if it freezes, it isn't even hard to keep the 3 DoTs up, as when I press the button, it still casts, I just don't see it. It really is the easiest build to play and puts up great numbers.

Considered it, to be honest.

How many bosses can you just send in FG and not worry about him til the end?

I'm a right lazy player these days, despite now being in a proper raiding guild!!

I just send him and forget him most fights. My healers heal him, so that helps. Heigan comes to mind as one where it's better to just sac him. It's great though cause I can get back to full mana during the dance phase with the mana regen.

Sartherion, not too tough on this on either though, just have a macro to put him in passive and on follow and hit it when your running to the safe spot.

Only made one attempt at malygos so far, so I can't speak for that fight.

pet management is a joke now-a-days. most bosses you can actually just send your pet in and forget about it, especially seeing as all the pets just got a large health increase. my imp gained like 4k health before buffs, supposedly about the same to succy. felhound a bit more (haven't checked). voidy, felguard, doomguard, infernal all supposedly got loads. so tbh, pets won't die.
