Very simple question really. Is the talent that previously affected Bear Form Swipe also increase the damage of our new cat form swipe?

I'm not sure where I read it, but yes I think it does.

Yes.

Swipe: Swipe (Cat) has now been added at level 71, dealing 260% weapon damage, costs 50 energy with no cooldown. All talents affecting the Bear Form version affect the Cat Form one as well.

Edit: haha, took me forever to find a blue post about it. Hiding in the Patch notes the whole time. XD

Maybe a silly question here, but what talent affects bear form swipe? I can't think of any. Or find any.

Feral Instinct increases Swipe damage by 30%, as far as I know that's all.

I think something went really wrong! XD

While in Cat Form, the tooltip changes from 260% to 338%.

What's up with that? Also, would that make Shred obsolete? :/

I think you have FI.

260*1.3=338

edit: Armory is back up. You do have Feral Instinct. So the talent does affect cat form. Thanks for the confirmation.

Yeah, can't believe I didn't realize sooner. O_o

Anyway, I did some rough maths and it seems that Shred won't lose its use. My maths might be wrong, I'm super tired, but I think it makes sense:

At ~660 Weapon Damage, Swipe would do more damage than Shred with no Mangle debuff.
Considering that, when both talented, Swipe costs a bit more than Shred (still without debuff), it would actually take ~820 WD to make it equal damage:energy ratio-wise.

And now with the debuff, it gets even more ridicule...
It would take some ~2100 WD for Swipe to be equal to Shred on a Mangle'd target.
And again, if you factor the difference in cost, it'd take ~4200 WD...

Surely some of you already had that figured, but, y'know, I haven't played in so long it actually sounded like Swipe could beat Shred.
Or I'm just really, really rusty at maths... who knows.

Still at work so I have to ask. Does Swipe generate combo points and if so how many when used in a multi-mob situation.

Catswipe doesn't generate any combo points at all, not even on primary target.

Which is one reason it won't replace Shred.

I asked the question for a reason.

I am pretty sure the rogue's new buff Fan of Knives doesn't generate CPs either. The mechanic would be too OP if a CP was generated on all effected mobs.

BTW Lastar I saged you. /gratz

edit: grammar is hard

ah key factor here how many mobs are you planing on doing with swipe remember it's an aoe attack not a single target attack so mangle and shred would be the op rotation for single swipe will take the dice probaly around 4 mobs i would say. i know a rogue in our 10 man last night hit fan of knives all the time.

Last night the server I'm on had problems with Northrend DC'ing so some guildies ran Kara and ZA. It was more something to do and to help a couple lower 70's get gear. Anyway while in there I used Swipe (Cat) a few times. It was sweet seeing all those number flash by. :)

I agree with the previous poster that Swipe is best used in AOE situations only. Four or more would probably be a good gauge. As nice as getting even one CP from a Swipe would be, it would definitly make Druid Cats OP.

Of course now I have to change my spec and put points into Feral Instinct.

Thanks Horsemouth for rate up.

Yeah, I should've mentioned that, sorry.

But my initial thoughts when I saw the addition of that skill before the patch rolled in, I saw the cost and damage and thought it might rival with Shred even on single targets. Turns out I even forgot about the RnT damage bonus, but like I said earlier the Mangle damage bonus is quite enough to blow Swipe outta the water. Still nice to have an AoE attack and all that, I'm just relieved it's not gonna replace our whole skill bars. ;P

It doesn't?

No big deal then - I'll stick to bear form when I want to beat up multiple targets.

Nope. Cat Swipe > Bear Swipe from my experience last night. On relatively small groups (5-6 mobs) cat swipe was doing over 3k DPS compared to my memories of 2-2.5k with bear swipe in similar pulls. Long AoE's might be a bit different, but with OOC & TF you can get a significant number in before energy starts to limit you (throw in a beserk and you will be in love!)

#21 Jan 21 2009 at 10:45 PM Rating: Decent
yeah cat swipe was only put in to help us keep up with aoe damage. wasnt ment to replace shred as a single target. sorta how they changed fan of knives to help rogues out on aoe damage.

yeah our server kept crashing in northrend but it only crashes when wintergrasp was won and then it would glitch out and reset wintergrasp alot of people was farming the honor/marks. naxx was safe to play in but i noticed a little lag spike when northrend went down. Wich so happened to get me killed 1 time on trash cause i was leap frogging the other tank on pulling trash down the hall.

Make look nice on paper, but thats not possible. You can't use tigers fury and beserk at the same time.

If he has the talent that grants 60 energy on a use of Tiger's Fury then I think it would be good to use it in this situation provided his energy was low enough to justify it's use.

The last few days of raiding since the patch I have found that cat form swipe is somewhat semi-spammable and has led to insanely high dps figures for me in certain situations. Last night in heroic Naxx on one aoe pull I topped out at 19,800 dps (ended the pull at 12,000 dps roughly). On most other multiple mob pulls I did anywhere from 4000 to 7000 dps spamming cat form swipe and supplementing with Tiger's Fury for 60 extra energy (I have the talent) and Berserk for stupid fast spamming.

I love this ability! Previously on aoe pulls I'd made it a habit to pop out of cat form and use Hurricane. Even as feral it does surprisingly good damage in spite of it not being the least bit mana efficient. I took it off my bars completely. Cat form swipe is all I'll ever need now to stay competitive in aoe situations.
