Need input on some Feral talentsFollow

Hey guys,

Haven't posted in a long while and I started playing again recently. My Druid is now up to 74 but I'm already starting to think about end-game. I joined a guild mostly because most people I know on the server are in there, and it seems like a decent balance of raiding and casual.

I thought I'd go Feral tank since I love Feral and I figured tanks are always in good demand, but input from my guild indicated that we don't need a lot of tanks (or at least MT's) and I could go with more of a DPS-oriented build. Of course, I'd be called for some OT'ing from time to time, so I don't wanna go for a full-DPS build either.

Trying to create such a build made me realize I'd have to sacrifice a few nice (or even very nice) talents, and now I'm turning to you, trusted Droods, to help me make the most of it.

This is the base build.
-I skipped Thick Hide because, while the bonus is nice, if you're not MT I think it's a waste of points.
-Skipped Survival Instincts pretty much for the same reason, and considering Druids have always tanked without such a talent. Again, if I was MT I'd take it, but meh, I'm not.
-I skipped Predatory Instincts and don't mind so much. 10% damage on crits is nice, but I'm thinking it's one of the few Cat-specific talents that I mind dropping the least.
-Sorta hesitating to take Master Shapeshifter. 4% crit in Cat is really awesome, but 4% damage in Bear is only so good. I know I'm supposed to go more toward DPS, but I know I could do something else with the 5 points.

Now my biggest dilemma is this: In the build I linked, I picked Natural Reaction and Protector of the Pack, foregoing Infected Wounds. All 3 talents are 3-point. I'm wondering if I should instead drop one of the two tanking talents to take IW instead and, if so, which of NR or PotP I would drop (basically which one has the biggest benefit for a part-time tank).

Alternately, maybe I could drop Master Shapeshifter and use the 5 points for Imp. MotW and the other 3-point talent.

So... yeah... input appreciated. :D

Imo, you're either a tank build or you're a dps build. You can't be a little pregnant; you can't really spec to OT/dps.

I'm usually dps while raiding but my guild has asked me to keep my tank build. My dps is ok and I can always OT or take over if MT goes down. It hasn't hurt my guild and allows me to pug heroics in my spare time. If you want to try a hybrid build I'd say lose Natural Reaction and pick up PI, since you will want that extra 10% crit damage. You'll be critting pretty often as a dps kitty. And if you ever PvP you want infected wounds.

If your DPSing enough then MS is good. SI is just a sexy new button and yes we did not have it for a long time. PI is all cat and a big damage boost as you probably crit a lot. Plus you will be taking way less damage from AoE when you DPS which your healers will love.

I would say take PI and 2 points in TH instead of MS. But regardless your build seems solid. Especially if your raid has some one else to apply the IW effect.

I disagree; a build like this is wholly capable of tanking and is only lacking KotJ and MS to top the DPS charts, plus that one point in PI, and you could even get the point in PI back from elsewhere (Brutal Impact comes to mind).

I respectfully disagee w/tuskerdu with having to be tank or DPSer. I really believe it come down to want you are trying to do. For just PVE I think you try obtain balance between tank & dps. I find I can solo easier or group for instance without changing alot of gear. Now if you are talking strictly for raids/heroics then I would agree w/tuskerdu you need to be one or the other. I don't really mention pvp because I believe always better to be dps unless doing arena in which case you are going to be whatever group needs you to be.
