Wound vs InstantFollow

#1 Jan 20 2009 at 8:15 AM Rating: Decent
Hey, I've read the poison faq even though it seemed outdated and I couldn't find an answer to my question.
Here it is: since wound poison has a 50% proc rate and instant poison has 20%, wich one does the most dps over the same amount of time?

The damage wound poison does is about half of what instant does but wound has more than twice chances to proc than instant.
Is there some kind of hidden cooldown on wound poison that would make it less effective?

Wound does better dps, unless you are mutilate specced and using envenom because instant has a 30% proc rate talented and benefits from the 15% envenom buff allowing the extra dmg to make up for the loss in procs.

In short fights against trash or when questing dualing wound poison will do more damage than instant.
However when raiding Deadly MH and Instant OH are taken when mut spec because of talents and envemon.

So if you're just questing go Wound/Wound all the way.

Thanks for the replies!
That's what i thought I just needed confirmation. Wound is also great for my combat spec since I benefit from Savage Combat earlier in the fight. =)

in 3.08 on bosses Instant MH and Deadly offhand, putting the faster of the 2 weapons in the MH for more IP procs. For mutilate that is, and this is due to the bug fix that allowed offhand poisons to double proc with mutilate. So now the EJ opinion is fastest weapon in MH with IP, your offhand with DP. Other rules of thumb still apply yadda yadda, spreadsheet.
