So I basically got as good as I felt I wanted to get in PVE gear and standing. No I havn't done 10 Man Sartharion with 3 drakes or anything but I think you get my point when I say I've gotten all the items on my Wishlist and I'm really happy with my mage.

So me and some buddies that are VERY skilled players decided to hit the PVP scene.

Our main 3s Team setup is Ret Paladin, Feral-Healbot, and me. I started out thinking Arcane all the way. Slow is invaluable, as is instant Invisible and Improved Counterspell. There are a lot of other perks to Arcane.

Looking realistically at my team makeup, though, it seems I might be a better asset if I spec frost. From my experience Arcane is a sustained burn that's only real options for opening up are popping some cooldowns and praying for a MBarrage to go proc.

Frost's ability to controllably knock a player out of contest seems to be very powerful. But we're new at this. We are 3/7 our first week and are building up Honor for accessories. Obviously we're terribly geared (mostly offspec heroic/naxx stuff nobody wanted.)

So I'm wonderin in my current standing, in this current 3s team, if I should spend the time now to learn to play Frost for Arenas or if Arcane would work just as well if not better.

How are you frosties doing out there in Arena teams?

Frost is still the way to go in arena imo. Arcane in PvP is a gimmick spec. You get to see some big numbers if your lucky, they you just die off and pray. While people are all about the burst right now, that doesn't mean that glass cannons are the way to go. Ele shams have awesome burst, but try and find them doing well. DKs and Rets are doing well because of the burst coupled with high damage mitigation. Mirror image + water ele + ice barrier = awesome.

So it seems not many are familiar with the PVP aspect of the game since WotLK has come out - I can totally relate. I guess I'll let you guys know seeing as I am going to try out Frost and learn any tricks I can pick up. PVP has taken a backseat in this game for the timebeing for most, but I'm confident as people complete all their PVE goals they will start to at least take a peak into it.

IMHO Arcane and even Fire are better PVP options for most Battleground situations. In the world of 3v3, where knocking one opponent out of the game is imperative, frost's ability to focus a large amount of damage while simulataniously immobilizing an enemy right off the bat seems to trump the constant damage provided by Arcane and the logistical benefits of Fire.
