Right, because it's only fair that one side gets a certain class while the other does not.
You could say the same things about shamans. "Horde shamans are real shamans while the draenei should never been able to be shamans."
I must admit it is kind of awkward having Draenei try to contact their ancient ancestral spirits on a completely different planet that has no ancestors...
With that said the difference is mainly racials. Blood Elves of course as a race tend to have higher intellect/mana than the other paladin races. Although really after level 20 the difference is so minimal its not worth paying attention too.
Alliance Paladins are true paladins. They worship the light. They are devoted followers. Whereas the blood elves are a bastardization (no its not a bad word when used properly...) of the paladin. They are manipulating the light and using it for their own gain rather than serving it (although after Sunwell Plateau this is in question).
Alliance gives you a greater range of customization as far as starting areas, models, and racials. Whereas every Horde paladin will start in the same place (although you can of course travel to other places to level...) with the same racials and limited to Blood Elf models only.
Beyond these differences there no longer is a difference. As of patch 3.x the faction-only paladin skills were given equivalent duplicates and talent trees of both have always been identical.
Seal of Blood = Seal of the Martyr
Seal of Vengeance = Seal of Corruption
And in all fairness gnomes aren't the only race hated. Blood Elves (especially males) are equally hated ESPECIALLY by old school horde players and in general, by all alliance players.
