For PvE, Mutilate or Combat?Follow

After HAT gets nerfed I will be changing my spec to either mutilate or combat swords. As I understand it, they put out very similar DPS and it's best to go with what weapons you have for the job. Last night in Naxx I was blessed with a great sword and a great dagger.

My swords:
MH - Silent Crusader (156 dps, 2.50 speed)
OH - Hatestrike (143 dps, 1.50 speed)

Daggers:

MH - Twilight Mist (156 dps, 1.80 speed)
OH - Murder (156 dps, 1.50 speed)

So, which spec will help me do more damage? Judging from the weapons, Mutilate seems to be better. I do find Mutilate to be annoying at times because of constantly keeping up HfB, but it's just a minor pet peeve.

Hatestrike is not a 1.5 it's a 1.6 speed.

Use a spreadsheet.

It depends on what you are doing, with the weapons you listed Mut will be quite ahead on bosses.

After spending 20-30 minutes installing Microsoft Office and another 15 minutes fiddling with the spreadsheet, my conclusion was that Mutilate comes out ahead by about 200 DPS. However, there is also more room for human error with Mutilate (letting HFB drop once completely screws up the cycle).

It may be annoying to keep up but it's not hard and I never let my HfB drop now, even in hectic situations.

HfB becomes hard to NOT keep up after a while. Last night I respec'd combat to see what my dps was like using fist/dagger. And I placed Adrenaline Rush on my bar where HfB usually is, Shift + E. I Kept trying to refresh HfB out of habbit busting my Adrenaline Rush pre-fight. hell even at work I find my self hitting shift+E whilst idle. get a good hot key for it and it will stick to your brain like the macaraina.

I personally enjoy mutilate now, makes me stay engaged in the game. I also feel like I earn my DPS more as I have to put much more effort into keeping buffs up as well as functioning in the fights.

mute is losing some dps in the patch, so download the newest spreadsheet if its out with the ptr updates. Combat is easier to sit there and play, more dps on trash... big swords look awesome. But as it is now, mute will do more dps.

So does combat, actually combat ends up losing more dps. They are also fixing the AR glyph. So, no more 1min KS. As for AE trash, Mut might come ahead or very close now, since they are buffing FoK dmg with daggers to 150% and on each crit of your FoK you get 2 energy back, so instead of 50 you end up spending a lot less, depending on your crit and number of mobs.

Mutilate animation look bettter than sinister strike. ;p

But yeah I agree, use spreadsheet... and play spec you like more. Mutilate and Combat are are close at dps, so play what you enjoy most.
