Hello and I first off hope this question was not already covered in the stickies but I'm kind of at a loss to find much about this. I've been leveling my rogue combat spec and a friend recommended going dual daggers, I personally have always heard swords were the way to go but as of recent I have also heard about fist/dagger. Now at my level(36) I don't know if it really matters but I definitely just want to be leveling as fast as possible. Any input would be great.

Yet again if this was already covered in the sticky and I missed it I apologize.

combat swords to level is the best since for one you don't have to have any position requirements. Plus swords usually have some better stats/damage and will last you longer than daggers will. Once you hit 70 you'll want to say goodbye to your lovely swords and pick up a slow dagger mainhand and a fast fist weapon off hand and then respec to mutilate since swords get lost in northrend.

Awesome thanks for the reply, I will go and grab a pair of swords asap and give it a shot. Hmm but in that case I should be dropping the close quarters combat talent and perhaps replace with Deflection and Riposte? Or would Lightning reflexes be a better option?

Ok what troll said was wrong. You need to duel wield daggers for mutilate and either slow/slow for being hits or fast/fast for more poison damage.

go slow fist main hand, and fast dagger off hand for combat if you want.

Since your going to use 2 swords, Close Quarters will be wasted points.

I don't know how long it has been since you have played your rogue, but the position requirement for mutilate was taken out a while ago.

Also, Your whole fist/dagger for mutilate is completely off because mutilate requires daggers in both hands. OP please don't listen to this guys information. It seems he is doing what his name states and trollingover this post.

Combat is a good leveling spec early because there are more swords available. Add that with the fact that you get blade flurry and eventually Adrenaline Rush and Killing Spree which makes for a good time.

When you get to Northrend I personally suggest going mutilate because there are a lot of daggers to get and with mutilate your combo point generation/stun locking abilities allow for little down time eating.

Edit: Added more information.

The logic behind leveling Combat Swords until Northend is primarily the poor itemization of fist weapons in the old world as mentioned above. There just aren't enough good fists out there, but there are tons of great swords.

You don't go with a dagger for your main-hand in a combat build because of how the damage of your special attacks (Sinister Strike, Eviscerate primarily) are calculated: based on the average damage (not DPS) of your main hand weapon. Slower weapons tend to have a higher average, hence the advice "slow for combat main-hands."

I found Wound Poison very effective on both weapons while leveling.

Here's a leveling build for your level range. I personally loved Reposte for leveling, but some people hate it. I found it occasionally useful when mobs refused to cooperate with my stun pattern. When soloing you should be stun-locking mobs as much as possible. This will keep your down time to a minimum between pulls. Fewer lunch breaks to get some health means more killing and more XP per hour. For combat that will look like Cheap Shot - SS x 5 - Eviscerate (if they're near death) or Kidney Shot - SS... etc.

And finally, read the sticky. =)

Oh, and to the Mutilate build weapon speed question: Given two weapons of the same DPS and stats but different speeds, go with the faster one for both hands. And, as noted, Mutilate requires daggers in both hands.

Good luck out there!
