PvE DPS Probs... advice?Follow

#1 Jan 11 2009 at 7:46 AM Rating: Decent
Hey guys, I'm having some trouble with my PvE DPS and thought I'd ask for some advice. Just recently switched from combat to mut, which I'm loving for PvP but which is letting me down on the PvE front. As combat spec using maces I was hitting a consistent 1700 dps in Heroics, nothing great but at least it was decent for a casual player. Since I've made the switch to mut I've been closer to 1300 which just plain sucks. I'm not very experienced with Mut spec, but that being said I've got the HoB/S&D/Envenom/Rupture part down decently and switched to S&D and rupture glyphs... I'm not really sure where I'm ******** this up.

Anyways here's my link

Thanks very much for any advice.

That dps on bosses or trash? or just avg? On trash Mut is generally below combat, especially if you aren't used to it.

Besides your spec isn't good for either pvp or pve. If you have ruthlessness. Max it. Vigor is pointless in pve. Also probably should go with Turn the tables instead of master poisoner. This is pve.

Mut pvp spec is in the sticky. it's 41/x/x something

From what I can see by taking a quick glance at your gear I have a few picky points.

-Need more hit man, obviously check it in the spreadsheet first. But you are at just over 100 hit, poison cap is 315 which is where a lot of our damage comes from.

-Shoulder gem is all wrong, if you have low hit (which you do) I would gem for +agi/+hit reason being, agi gives you crit and AP while plain AP is well just AP.

-Save up some badges and get the mirror of truth, you should have spent some gold on paper cutters and spent those badges on the 40 badge mirror.

Aside from that just make sure your cycles are up and just get used to the style of mut. It was hard for me changing from swords to mut but now I love it and wouldn't go back.

Maybe it's me, but I could've sworn that Master Poisoner was a larger DPS increase over TtT. Can any recall for certain?

MP is better unless you are sure there will be a Ret pally or (edit) shaman in the group (both of which have buffs which push the raid crit buff off), in which case you take TtT for the personal DPS increase.

*edit, error

Maybe I caught you in PvP gear, but stamina gems? And woah lowest hit rating ever recorded.

You're using a tanking dagger MH.

You should replace your red gems with +AGI(delecate) gems, or with your hit rating, AGI+HIT(glinting) gems. Replace your blue gem with either a +AGI/STA(Shifting) or +hit/STA (Vivid) gem.

Or hell, remove all your gems and replace with yellow straight hit rating gems and you'll do better. For mutilate, hit is *the* stat you want until something like 446 hit (315 with precision, which you have) rating.

Bad advice alert.

For Mutilate for most gear levels, Expertise is best stat until 26 expertise. Followed closely by AP/AGIL and hit is below that at 1.8Value compared to 2.0 for agil as an example. Also, it's simple, go to EJ. Get spreadsheet. Stop living in the dark.

As for hit value, I am talking about the (99 <-> poison cap) value.

Hit goes from 2.0 to 1.8 after the poison hit cap has been met, which is 315.

I don't know what "(99 <-> poison cap) value. " means, Elu.

Hit is still higher than exp between 99 and the poison cap.

EJ wrote:
Stat EP
Str 1.1
Agi 2.0
Crit 1.6
Exp 2.0
Haste 1.6
ArPen 1.1
MH DPS 4.1
OH DPS 3.1

Hit is worth about 2.9 below the yellow hit cap, 2.2 below the poison hit cap, and 1.4 above both caps.

That's for muti.

Recent development or something?

I'd rather trust Vulajin's latest 4.4 Spreadsheet that shows me losing around 6dps by just switching from 32ap gem to 16hit gem.

Also a 3dps loss when doing the same on my unbuffed sheet. I am slightly below poison cap at 299.

Edit: For clarification. Vulajin takes active part in doing live tests and discussion I've also done many, many long live and tests on PTR and results of tests agree with his spreadsheet. So, I am not just blindly following him or anything, before I started trusting his spreadsheet I tested everything 1st myself and compared, tested poisons in different hands, weapons positions and rotations.

I am not a math person. Let that be said. I'm also slightly drunk. However, I know my IP does 17% of my damage. I'd prefer to have it hit capped at 315 over 30 extra AP.

EP Weights posted take into consideration you have every single raid buff available in a 25man setup. EP weighs are used to determine things if a spreadsheet is not readily available or if you are unable to use it, good for a glance at itemization. Spreadsheet is for more accurate numbers though still not 100$

Use the spreadsheet. Does it tell you that you do more? Then use that setup.
