Might vs. Kings - Ret - Solo/5-Man/LevelingFollow

Hello,

Seems to be my week for asking questions about blessings.

I'm trying to wrap my head around this and I've been googling. Sifting through WoWhead comments. Looking back a few pages here. I can't seem to find a conclusive answer.

I'm leveling retribution on my second paladin and just hit 68. I'm playing mostly solo with the occasional instance group I can manage to get into.

In this situation, not raiding, no heroics. Which is overall better for a ret paladin? Improved might or Kings (full 5 points)?

I'm starting to think divine strength + kings would have nice synergy but overall would I be doing better damage in solo/5-mans/leveling?

This is a build I'm toying with right now for level 70 (picked a nice round number since I'm almost there)

At your current gear level, Might (with or without Improved) will do more for your DPS than Kings. That doesn't mean that picking up Kings is a bad idea, as if you group it can be a nice buff for some party members. But for yourself, it's probably wise to stick with Might in most situations.

For personal DPS, Imp Might is better than Kings until you have around 3k Strength. A bit less, because of Agility, but still far more than you can get.

You pick up Kings in your spec later because it's better for most casters, and sometimes you'll run with another pally or a warrior who battle shouts. I'd suggest not putting points in it until you're above 70. I took it from 75-80, myself. It's really not a great blessing. Far overrated.

I also play most of the caster classes. Kings is nice, sure, but only as a second blessing after wisdom. Even on my warlock I'd still prefer wisdom in dungeons.

It's nice utility to bring to a dungeon if there's 2 paladins in the group, but just about everyone can live without it. And there are so many points in ret that boost damage, I couldn't really put 5/5 kings in a leveling spec until about level 78.

Generally I pick up kings rather easily as holy at 70+, but if I go prot or ret I just can't spare the points.

Thank you for your input. I'm guessing I can understand from a pure dps perspective the advantage of might. However, the extra 10% intellect, stamina, and agility (=dodge/crit) seem tempting.

I do plan on grabbing kings at some point. Just trying to determine whether its solely utility or a marked improvement over might.

I would assume it depends on how you level. For me, I require Wisdom because I pull 3-4 mobs at a time to reduce time spent grinding out quest mobs. That, and I love how incredibly fast things die with Consecration and spamming Divine Storm every time it's up.
I admit that Judging gives huge mana back, but between all your damage spells and spamming FoL every 3-4 seconds(especially when Elites are involved) you will run out.
I never stop to drink, and I like it that way! But, if you take 1v1 fights, Might will own hardcore :)

With the gear that's coming up in the Armory (for Chasiti on Nordrassil) this is the approximate comparison:

(+50 STR, +10 AGI, +50 STA, +10 INT) vs. 381 AP (Imp. BoM Rank 8)

For comparison, we'll subtract out the 50 STR and 100 AP and we're left with:

(+50 STA, +10 AGI, +10 INT) vs. 281 AP

So most of what you'd be getting out of BoK at this point is a stamina boost - once you take out the stamina (not *that* important for most Ret leveling action), it's pretty imbalanced in favor of BoM.

for your lvl and most everyone else, +10% int and agi will add up to near squat. when you get your strength and stam closer to 1k each, then you should consider buffing them by 10% with Kings for solo or pvp.

at max rank with talents, BoM is 687AP which will be 206 spell. the AP also increases the amount DS heals you.

i wouldn't 'waste' points in Kings until your respec at lvl 80.

consecrate has the worst mana to dmg ratio of almost any dmg spell in the game. in a group of mobs, you would be better off killing 1 target at a time with BoM+JoL+SoC. you should be able to down non-elites of equal lvl in 1 rotation apiece. no one should need to drink after lvl 71 due to Judgements+Divine Plea using single mob kills(save high hp elites).
