Paladins use shields. Warriors use shields. Both are plate wearers.... I don't really want to argue the point, but from my stand point, it seems --up until WotLK-- plate wearers had the option to use shields. The mechanics work fine without them needing them, as I see now. But it did make sense that they ought to be able to use shields like any other plate wearing class.

Ah well.
