Deep Freeze in PvEFollow

Everyone hates on Deep Freeze and admittedly, it isn't a very strong talent however, I think it's worth picking up while leveling (obviously it sucks for raiding but then again so does frost in general).

While I was grinding I took the talent and generally used it on Fingers of Frost procs. When FoF procs, you cast a frostbolt then you deep freeze. What it effectively does is freeze the target for 5 more seconds (as well as stun) so your next 3 Ice Lances can benefit from the triple damage bonus and shatter. Of course you may not be able to get all three ice lances off before whatever you're fighting dies.

Another approach is to start out w/a frost nova from you or your ele, then Frostbolt > Deep Freeze and then Ice Lancex3. It's just another tactic to spice up your solo play, and really isn't necessary or ground breaking but it's not a wasted talent point when you compare it with your other options in a deep frost build. It's most useful against ranged attackers and casters (although Ice Barrier is OP for solo) but it's something to consider. Frost is a leveling/pvp spec in the end, and this talent is useful and fun for both.

Obviously deep freeze is a great leveling talent, I can't see why anyone would think otherwise.

Deep freeze is decent, but I don't believe that helpful in PvE unless you get a frostbite proc/fof and you need to interrupt their cast. Doing frostbolt -> deep freeze icelancex3 isn't necessary. Frost Nova works on amount of damage taken % of their health left over. The most efficient way to kill someone with frostbite/frost nova would be to frostbolt -> frostbolt + icelance to get double shatter procs.

With deep freeze you get a guaranteed 4 shatter proc opportunities off of each FoF and you halt whatever forward progress your foe will make. Of course that's only provided whatever you're fighting isn't dead already.

The method you describe is great and does more damage more quickly than a deep freeze tactic which is all you need to do most of the time when FoF procs. Regardless, I've seen you specifically refer to the talent as "terrible" which I think to be false and the method I describe can be useful to players in a variety of situations.

The meat of the post summed up is that a Deep Frozen target behaves like a Frozen target and is thus susceptible to shattering for the duration of the stun.

On a nova/pet nova

Frostbolt, Frostbolt, Deep Freeze, Frostbolt, Ice Lance, Ice Lance (last one depends on haste)

On a 3 second frostbite

Frostbolt, Deep Freeze, Frostbolt, Ice Lance (x2)

Of course this assumes a high amount of HP on whatever you're fighting. Sometimes a simple Frostbolt, Ice Lance is enough.

If it does indeed treat the mob as "frozen" and not just "stunned" then I stand corrected, but I haven't heard that before.
