Gemming Agi or AP?Follow

#1 Jan 09 2009 at 9:52 AM Rating: Decent
I've never been the best at choosing the right gems but come wotlk I tend to stick a +16agi/+32ap gem in every slot I have.
Although both gems have the same EP weights which ones do you prefer and why?
Personally I'm using Agility over AP as we always have a paladin when raiding and so is more benenfitial with Kings.

Attack power is only attack power.

Agility is attack power as well as dodge, crit chance, etc.

If two given items gives the same amount of AP, one via AP, the other via Agi, take the agility one.

Agi gives us AP as well as some Crit and, as you note, scales with Kings. I would, generally, weigh them heavier than straight AP gems. But, as always, use a spreadsheet.

AP is slightly better, at least for my gear either as mut or combat. For Mut expertise is slightly better than AP until cap. On Vulajin's spreadsheet. Your mileage may vary however in most cases AP or Exp(if Mut) would prevail.

Okay I have to be missing something...

AP Gem=32 AP

AGI Gem=16 AGI

Yes?

1 AGI=2 AP

16 AGI=32 AP

But 16 AGI also gives you crit.

So 16 AGI>32 AP

Yes?

So why would you ever gem for AP?

Uh, rogues gain 1 AP per 1 Agi.

For mutilate, AP is better than Agi.

NEEDS MORE EJ PRECIOUSSSSS.

I'm still partial to the Crit from Agi for Mutilate, mainly for the energy issues when not pooling. But I am in need of switching out a few gems... might be time to check out AP again... le sigh.

Moo, you were probably just thinking of the stat weights (1 AP = 2 Agi). Happens to the best of us =)
