mangle/shred macroFollow

#1 Jan 08 2009 at 11:47 PM Rating: Decent
Before I ask my question, let me just say that I post rarely, but always enjoy reading the druid's forum on alla mostly because people actually seem helpful, rather than just calling everyone a noob.

That being said, I have just started using macros as I was a casual player before and never realized how fantastic these simple commands really were. I have been researching macros for druids mostly through wowwiki.com, but I am curious what the code would be for a macro that would initially cast mangle, then shred as long as mangle is still up.

Mostly, I just want to spam this macro so that mangle is always on the target, but when it is, shred is used instead. I'm not an incredibly lazy player, but with DK's tanking more and more, I find it difficult to stay behind a target to shred and still maximize dps.

If there is no macro that does this, I understand. If there is, I was just hoping someone could share their knowledge with me.

Thank-you for your time!

Sorry, ya can't do that.

Macro's aren't able to recognize and adapt to things like buffs/debuffs on you or your target, combo points, etc.

Thanks for your response. I figured that, but since I'm new to macros, I figured I ask people who were probably much more informed than myself.

One thing you might want to do in the interest of saving barspace is macro together your stealth openers with combat attacks, since you can't use openers unless stealthed and would only want to use the others if you're not stealthed.

So, for example, a given key/macro Pounces if you're prowling or Mangles if you're not stealthed.
#showtooltip
/cast [stealth] Pounce; [nostealth,nomodifier] Mangle - Cat

Or Ravages if you're stealthed, Shreds if you're in combat, and Prowls if you're unstealthed but out of combat.
#showtooltip
/cast [stealth] Ravage; [nostealth, combat] Shred; [nostealth, nocombat] Prowl

Stuff like that.

To add to JeeBar's ideas, here's the conditional macros I use now in cat form:

- "Stun"
#showtooltip
/cast [stealth] Pounce; [nostealth] Maim
(Self explanatory I'd hope, use Pounce when stealthed, Maim when not; the #showtooltip also will show whichever one is active, which is kinda cool)

- "Hit em from behind"
#showtooltip
/cast [stealth] Ravage; [nostealth] Shred
(Also self explanatory)

- Tiger's Fury
#showtooltip Mangle - Cat
/cast Tiger's Fury
/cast Mangle - Cat
(I tied these together because I forget to use TF otherwise and don't have or plan to get KotJ so no reason to save TF - I'm more a bear than a cat at heart, though I do enjoy doing both)

- Rez
#showtooltip
/cast [combat] Rebirth; [nocombat] Revive
(simple, but useful)

- OMG HEALZ
#showtooltip Greater Healing Potion
/use Greater Healing Potion
/cast Survival Instincts
(nice for when your healer just doesn't quite get there fast enough)

I think there's a few others I have but my memory is spotty in my ripe old age of 23 :P

As a sidenote, if you're OCD like me and don't like having the macro name text on the macro button (because it looks out of place next to the buttons you drag in from your spellbook, dammit! >:E), you can name the macro with a simple press of your spacebar key and you'll never know the difference, especially if you use the #showtooltip option properly. :D

The Rez one is a favorite of mine as it is a simple way of checking combat status. Some others I use.

#showtooltip
/cast [nomodifier] Savage Roar, [modifier:shift] Rip

#showtooltip
/cast [nomodifier] Frenzied Regeneration, [modifier:shift] Savage Roar

#showtooltip
/cast [nomodifier, target=player] Healing Spell, [modifier:shift, target=target] Healing Spell
I run this one this way as I rarely heal others being feral and all.

#showtooltip
/cast [nomodifier] Growl, [modifier:shift] Challenging Roar

I tend to keep most things key bound. Many of those things like Lifebloom( ']' key with above macro) are on a hidden bar. Once you learn your keybinds and macros I recommend hiding a good deal of stuff. I typically only want to see things associated with cooldowns.

Other good conditionals to remember; [help, harm, noharm, target=targettarget, exist, dead, modifier:shift/alt/control, stance:1-5(below)]. For casters /stopcasting is always great to put in front of macros as it stops what you are currently doing.

Of course you should all have a /cancelform macro.

Stance 1 Bear or Dire Bear
Stance 2 Aquatic
Stance 3 Cat
Stance 4 Travel
Stance 5 Moonkin or Tree of Life
Stance 6 Flight or Swift Flight

If you don't have a form the stance does nothing. Using [nostance:x] is also valid.

Thanks again everyone. I'm new to macros, but these seem like they will make WoW infinitely more enjoyable.

Color me confuzzled. Please clarify. Why would you need/want a /cancelform macro since they made it so you automatically pop into caster form whenever you try to cast a spell or do something that requires caster form?

To look pimp in town.

Also to shift in and out of bear to force a Furor proc when at less than 5/5.

I could use a

/cancelform
/cast Dire Bear Form

macro but I also like to use it to well cancel form sometimes.

But mainly to pick up chicks in town as my gear looks sexy now that I don't wear a tabard and have crazy space alien shoulders.

Also the stances can be used for people who don't have some form of bar swapping by form or for keybinds off of said bars if they do have them.
