First Time 80 WarlockFollow

#1 Jan 08 2009 at 6:16 PM Rating: Decent
I just hit 80 for the first time on my Warlock, and I want to start doing heroics and raid in the future, but I've noticed my overall DPS is very low, sometimes lower than the tank (In heroics, normal instances I do fine). I was wondering how I can go about changing this and what steps I need to take.

Here is my armory link:
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Ner%27zhul&n=Machogar

My spell rotation is CoA, Corruption, Siphon Life, Unstable Affliction, Haunt, Drain Life, SB when Nightfall procs. Replace CoA with CoE for bosses.

Im heavily assuming my major problem is my gear, as I think my rotation is good, and in the "skill" factor, Im quick at casting in succession. Of course, my spec probably has something to do with it too, as Im almost full affliction with minor changes in demon.

First major problem I see with your gear is that you have mp5 on a few pieces. I did too when I hit 80 simply because the other stats were better than what I currently had. You still should know though, mp5 is a worthless stat to us as we automatically regen no mana during combat.

As for your spec, it shows you as destro, not Affliction. For Destro I would at least drop 1-2 points from Backdraft, as I've heard that the 3rd point is actually a DPS loss somehow. Not to sure on the specifics. I'd also drop the point from Shadowfury and put points into Demonic Power to buff the Imp some more. I'd also try to pick up Demonic Aegis.

I think this is a better Destro build:

I will say that I do not have any experience with the Destro builds in WotLK though.

I personally am a big fan of the Felguard/Emberstorm build. This is what I currently run with:

If I am not top DPS in anything I run it's either not a pet friendly fight(very few) or it's a close call between 1, 2 and 3. With the other two most often my guilds mage and hunter.

For weak trash:
Rain of Fire

For tougher trash:
CoA on a few to give the tanks time for aggro and get Molten Core to Proc
Rain of Fire

For trash that doesn't stack or pulls of 1-2.
Kinda have to gauge how long it will live and either just Incin or Immo/Incin, maybe if your groups other DPS is really lacking, CoA, Immo, Incin spam

For Bosses:
CoA, Corr, Immo, Spam Incin refreshing DoTs as needed. Use Demonic Empowerment whenever it's up.

Jenova also has had some really good luck with Affliction, and can probably give more info on that than me. There is also a good post by Fallenman in the Warlock Forums at the O-Boards.

not gonna bother going in depth, but presuming you are actually afliction usually... try pressing shadowbolt instead of drain life... you'll instantly notice a difference. also open with haunt, better for your dots.
