I guess it would only work if there's not a long CD on Slowfall - which I don't know - never had to cast it quickly on myself multiple times.

HALO - High Altitude Low Opening

As a mage - I know I can fly up on a flying mount, dismount - then Cast it on myself.

Imagine a raid on a location in Northrend where you don't run into the location through the guards - You literally fly so high no one can see you, Time your dismounts - then cast it on everyone on the way down.

The fall is several seconds from the highest point.

For a 5 man group - Assume tank, Healer, DPS, DPS, Mage - time your dismount - All at same time.

1. Slow Fall DPS
2. Slow Fall DPS
3. Slow Fall Healer
4. Slow Fall Tank
5. *ALT Slow Fall Self*

(Mage has to be last to slowfall - otherwise the group would fall faster away and be out of range)

You want the Tank on the ground as soon as possible - so you let him fall with the mage the furthest....

Imagine a raid doing this?

Not really, it is an interesting idea, but I can't see it happening as they don't want raids to be strictly based on a certain spell/buff (mind control excluded apparently). the CD is the GCD btw.

Would be cooler if we just parachuted.

Agreed. As it is, Blizz isn't quite happy that they have an encounter that requires that you have two priests in raid(Razuvious). Having one is reasonable to them, but requiring two might be too much.

Doing a jump like that in the context of PvP would be pretty cool-looking, unfortunately with GCD you're going to be pretty out of sync if you've only got 1 or 2 mages trying to slow fall even as many as 5 people.

I don't know how much you've played around with slow falling yourself into places, but if you've ever been high enough to have it wear off on your in mid-flight you'd notice that you drop like a stone as soon as it does, you don't keep your forward momentum unless you recast it and that takes a moment during which time you've lost a lot of potential forward progress.

A few of us were talking about this the other day. We were talking about doing it with a bunch of pallies and mages, in case the mages miss or it wears off before we hit the ground. Mages w/ IB and pallies w/ bubbles. Tanks, healers, dps, woot! We could practice it pretty much anywhere, just set a target.

Good idea. But (isn't there always), as you yourself say, the "O" is for opening. So this would be a HAI - High Altitude Insertion. For a HALO, as Anobix says, we would need a paracute.

With this, unless the mage was able to cast Slowfall before the dismounts, #1 DPS would be out of range of the mage when a re-cast was needed with the cool-downs, even if its just the global. The dismount would have to be timed well and staggered, not "simultanious" . The Mage first, and as the others scream down toward him, cast on them. The stagger will allow for cool-downs. Only catch would be getting high enough so that the last of the group isn't 3 feet below ground level when he screams past the mage. (Lol.....but if you don't like him!)

Or might I suggest that the "group" version of Slowfall be similar to the Hunter spell Aspect of the Pack, in that once cast on the mage, all group members within 30 yds are covered by the effects of the spell.

I really like the idea though, and me a and few friends are going to try Trilliandent
's idea. Me, a mage with IB to break my fall or even Slowfall at the last second (unless momentum is taken into account, but in my less watchfall moments, stepping off a cliff and casting SF at the last minute works fine), a priest with Levitate (thanks Poldaran) and a Paly with his bubble. It will have to be in the Outlands though as the Paly is not flying in Northrend yet! We can pick a nice village and I might even try a few Blizzards on the way down, followed by some Arcane blasts to mop up with once we get down

Death from above!!! Cool.

can't blizzard, falling down is moving....

I think you try this after you hijack a zeppelin. Insert into enemy territory before the zep reaches the landing pad.

The idea is interesting. I would try to make it where you have to obtain a certain item, like the tears for Archimonde, that way the whole raid can dismount at the same time instead of depending on one class to cast a self buff only lol.

Don't forget, mages don't have to IB, they can Blink to the ground. I do that all the time. I jump of Wyrmrest Temple (the very top) and Slow Fall down, and about 5 seconds before the debuff wears off, I click SF again to keep going. If I am going a direction I don't like, I simply turn my toon in the direction I want to go and just blink, and I'm on the ground!

Just a few things to consider when jumping from heights of great magnitude. On another note, I think it would have been cool to drop into Archimonde using the Tears to star the encounter. The wipes alone would have been a good laugh.
