Gems and enchantsFollow

This is my first post and a devoted thread for ;Anobix the Wise;

I've read this threads a lot since i started playing again(skipped BC entirely, played lots and lots pre bc).
Now i feel that i have the hang of things.
One thing that makes me uncertain is gems.

What gems should be used for mages in different slots?(pve-build)

Red = runed scarlet ruby = +19spellpower
Yellow, i use the +12hit there now but donno if it is the best way to go.
Blue, kinda messes with me since i do not find any good gems.
Meta, haven't started looking here yet.

Enchants are quite easy imo but maby not for all.

Gloves: +28 spellpower
Bracers: +23/30 spellpower
Weapon: +50/63 spellpower
Chest: +stats or +8mp5 ?

Pants:
+50 spellpower +20 stamina (tailoring)

Head:
Kirion tor reward(+spell power and crit)

Sholders:
Sons Of Hodir reward(+spell power and crit)

This is a start, for Anobix to finish and maby make a new post a sticky one?

Only worry about color options when the socket bonus is EXTREMELY good or you need to meet a meta requirement. That said, these are great:

Runed. Veiled. Potent. Reckless.

These are good:
Smooth. (Erm, +hit, don't remember name). Quick.

This is ok for meeting a blue socket requirement for metas:

+Spellpower/+Stan

Meta: Chaotic Skyflare Diamond. Period.

Also, because you named Anobix and not me, I'm officially giving you the evil eye when you sleep.

From everything that I have read gemming for hit is a general dps loss. Unlike BC where hit cap is everything, it is not quite as important right now. Of course it all depends on spec etc, but assuming you can pick up the 6% from talents+debuffs the cap of 290 is pretty small and unnecessary to gem for. Almost always either gem for Runed -- or Potent if the socket (yellow) bonus is REALLY good, otherwise just gem for damage. You should be getting Hit from your other pieces of gear/trinkets/etc.

/comfort Poldaran

For Chest I always say +stats, the tiny bit of hp or mana makes up for our already terrible mana regen.

Yeah so legs, spellpower/stam

Cloak/Back: A lot of controversy here, almost everything I've read on EJ is to go for Speed/Haste (15/23 haste enchant) instead of the tailoring embroidery.

Boots: icewalker (crit+hit I believe)

Meta: Always - no exceptions, CSD

Blue Gem slot (with really good bonus or to fit your Meta requirements): Spell/Stam

Don't forget to get a belt buckle as well, it can help fill your meta requirements.

I did not quite get that.

1) If socket bonus (such as +4hit/+4crit) you gain from adding correct color is not "that great" then i go for +19 spellpower instead ?
2) "That said, these are great:" are you talking about bonuses then or sockets?

And for Anobix,

Currently on T7 i have +12hit where a yellow socket is wanted(for bonus) due to that either i can add some hit to chest+pants or i need to switch belt to a worse one then i already have.

I mean 290 hit rating is not likely to come from some generic pve-dps gear or am I mistaken?

Maybe you mean that instead of adding 12*x at various places i should be using spellpower gems and use some +hit gear where needed?

Tnx for replies!

1) That is correct. If it is like 4spirit or 2int or even 2 spellpower (or some lower number or non-helpful stat) then it is a bigger dps increase to do spelldamage.

2) Those are the gems that you will want to use in all situations given the need (other than runed of course). Veiled = spell/hit, potent = spell/crit reckless = spell/haste, and glowing (I believe) is spell/stam

My best suggestion would be to load your character into Rawr (link in signature) and let it tell you what stats are best for you at this time and what gems you should be using (and also what gear are better upgrades for you etc).

I have over 300 hit right now and have not gemmed for it. I am also not using the blue trinket that provides 78 hit. When you start getting t7 and some good blues and epics, hit will start flying at you. If you are under hit, you could even do something like use a food buff or an elixir to make up for the hit missing. But as it was stated, hit isn't going to make the biggest difference in your dps now adays, just as you get better gear your hit will also get much better.
