Quick Spec CheckFollow

I was hoping that you veteranos could check my leveling spec here. I don't seem to have much of a problem, except fighting multiple mobs requires some creativity. My gear is all pretty much pre-WoTLK, but it's decent.

Thanks!

replace those hit gems with damage ones (even green wotlk ones are cheap and are great - 14dmg for 3g, kk). that should get your damage a lot higher.

I've always been a big fan of frost for leveling, just makes everything so much easier.

A few talents that you have that are not very helpful:

imp scorch (how often are you using it for the crit bonus?)
living bomb (most/all mobs should be dead in far less than 12 seconds).

Get some points in impact and dragon's breath and blastwave for leveling.

It's like you are trying to put together a raiding spec for leveling (does not work well unless you are very well geared, which you aren't really).

My wise and intuitive friend you are correct. I have always had a raiding build, so I didn't move too far from that for WoTLK. I will take your advice on the dmg gems and respec into frost.

I've never played as frost. Where do I look for advice on a talent spec for leveling frost?

I can always look up spell rotations here for killing mobs once I have respec'd. Thanks Anobix. Your love of this class and the game will never go underappreciated. (ok enough of the butt kissing)

frost is pretty much just spam frostbolts for the rotation. When things freeze you can throw a frostbolt immediately followed by an icelance to get both to benefit from shatter. Just pick up anything that gives damage bonuses and slows down enemies. Brain freeze is great, although the 51pt talent is pretty bad for pve but decent for pvp. Check out tgmpe at the top and form your own opinion of what sounds good - if you have any questions feel free to ask.

After reading the tgmpe I used a talent calculator to build a spec around sinking max points in every talent that suggested an "A" or "B" for soloing. This pretty much gives me a 3/0/61 build. Is this overkill or OK?

Should be fine, if you want to throw it into a talent calculator and link it here for you final product I would be happy to look at it.

Here's what I came up with

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html?tal=00000000000000000000000000000023040000000000000000000000003533003313233100002152201351

I put the points in fire centered around fireblast as an instant cast I could use, which might proc an ignite tic.

Whaddya think?

I would start with something like that. As frost your crit rating will be extremely low (sub 10% while leveling is standard -- not including molten armor).

I would pick up glyphs of: evocation, frost nova, and molten armor I would think would be great leveling glyphs.

That build above gives you the chance to throw 10 points around where you want to. Deep freeze (as mentioned) is terrible in PvE (they took out its damage factor) and Brain Freeze is excellent -- Instant free cast fireball? Yes Please!

From there the last 10 points are kind of filler. You can put 10 in arcane for arcane concentration but it isn't super helpful and there really aren't a good 10 points to put into fire, so really up to you.

I respec'd to frost last night and ran a few quests. Wowee it was fun! I was dropping mobs like bad habits! The mana savings and survivability are very noticible.

I'll make a few changes to my spec based on your recommendations, which make some good sense. Thanks again.
