FrostFollow

Hello mages i have a few questions that i know you guys can help me with. First off though i just want to say that i have read the stickies and looked on EJ, sadly however, i just dont understand most of it.

I leveld my mage using deep frost spec doing AOE i loved it especially when i hit Icecrown and went to that sweet spot, ok so now my mage is 80 and ive been doing heroics with him and having success as far as not being last on the meters, but thats only because of blizzard, on single targets when i look at the damage for said fight im low if not last.

My spec right now is all frost with enough points in arcane to have 1 point in Clear casting which seems to be a waste since it only has 2% chance to go off.

Ilike doing AoE damage so what spec would you guys run and what rotation would you use?

I normally wait for the pull have my pet out if available and blizzard then when theres only 1 mob left depending on its health fireblast or frostbolt.

Well heres the thing my main or the character ive played since i started this game is my rogue he has the most achievements ect but im thinking of changing my main to my mage since the rogue class is overlooked most the time.. and i find myself liking my mage more then my rogue now.

Maybe its because i can get grps on my mage i dunno but in the event i do switch to my mage i dont think being so deep into frost will be any good for 10/25mans .. i could be wrong.

Thats why i was asking what a good raid/5 man heroic spec would be.. almost every heroic has multiple pulls so i didnt see the need to switch my spec, but i out dps my rogue who is way better geared then my mage is. My rogue has mostly all epics from heroics and i got the legs and boots from naxx.

i guess ill just mess around with diff specs i just want one that does good single target and aoe damage,, i love frost but unless i get FoF or fireball to proc alot i finish low on the dps

For your purposes I'd probably stick with frost, not sure how your build looks but I've come up with two builds, one with arcane and the other with fire as the secondary spec.

The frost parts are the same basically trying to fit some points in frostbite, imp blizz and permafrost (for trash/solo aoe) but also take what I see as the necessary targets for single target damage (because where dps matters most is generally on bosses). There's no improved CoC because I don't think you'll need to use that too often, blizzard should do most of the killing for you. There's no imp WE because it won't have as much benefit in a 5 man (having all 5 members as mana users is unlikely).

I levelled with a frost/fire spec (which also has the benefit of added blizzard crit), but after the patch it might work well to go into arcane until TotW for a boost on single target fights (3% crit from Focus Magic is also nice assuming you have someone to put it on).

So, here are my suggested builds:
18/0/53
0/13/56 - this leaves you with 2 points spare to stick in frost (I'd suggest frostbite or permafrost), depending on how often you use brain freeze (which I picked up in this spec because it's just more fun :P) you might consider dropping the points in ignite, giving you 5 more for frost (maybe to max out imp blizzard or take imp CoC/WE)

Or you could try out fire aoe, but I've never really gone down that route so can't offer much advice. I think you'd gain single target dps from going fire, but drop on aoe damage. Then again fire aoe is more fun than recasting blizzard until nearly everything is dead :)
