Casting gear questionFollow

I'm currently spec'd to balance for soloing/questing/farming, but i'm probably going to respec to resto once I hit 79/80. How much different is healing gear from casting gear after these new changes? Since nothing seems to be +healing anymore I don't see a difference, but someone insisted to me that they're entirely different.

Balance gear needs hit & crit, whereas the healing gear doesn't (crit is still of some small benefit though). Heals also rely more on mana regen through Int, Spi & Mp5

Balance = Hit(till capped) > SP > Crit & Haste > Int & Spi & Mp5

Heals = Heals > Int & Spi & Mp5 > Crit & Haste

There are a lot of pieces that can be used for both - if a piece has high SpellPower then from a healing point of view it doesn't matter if there is hit on it. Just be aware that if rolling on something in an instance, items with +hit should have preference to DPS casters. Items with high spirit are mainly good for healers although warlocks also prize spirit.

MP5 is pretty lame these days on a resto druid. Basically, get the shiny stuff with spell power and spirit (int is okay, but since pretty much all gear with spirit on it has Int, focus on spirit). In general you'll be able to heal most 80 dungeons and even the easier heroics in your boomkin gear until you're able to snag the pure resto stuff. Just ditch any hit gear provided it's not a huge upgrade to spellpower (only hit gear I had for a while was an offhand).

N00b question.... how do you know when hit is capped? And does spell power = heals when resto?
