OMG! how is this possible?! :OFollow

Ello,

I've switched from prot to retri for some time (might stay as retri) and find it so OP in 5man and raids. I'm doing ~2k DPS in 5man and more in raids, and this seems really weird to me since I'm still wearing 7 lvl 70 epix :O

stats are:

2523AP
~26% crit
318hit
~1k spelldmg

I'm not sure if it's just me that've found an imba rotation or if paladins just do sick dps with "low" stats?

Are you looking at boss numbers or overall? The amount of AoE going on makes for pumped DPS.

When I'm ret, I have 3500 AP, 32% crit unbuffed, didn't even check buffed at the time.. I was happy with my 2600 DPS #1 spot on a Patchwerk guild kill.

Yea.. make sure you check your single-target DPS as well so you have a good understanding of what you're pushing.

That said, good Northrend greens should put a fresh level 80 DPSer at 2000 DPS, which isn't too far a stretch from good level 70 epics -- so I don't see anything crazy there.

OP, you have far too much hitrating by the way. There's pretty hot debate right now on whether the melee hit cap is 8% or 9% (plenty of WWS reports of 8% capped retadins in full 25-man runs with no recorded misses for example) but eitherway, 295 is the maximum needed to have the full +9% chance required against a raid boss.

In my opinion, strength gives you such a collosal increase in dps that you should never gem or enchant for hit rating and just put +16 str gems in everything you own. Rely on passive +hit that appears on your gear as standard.

edit: The 9% cap of course doesn't guarantee Exorcism, Holy Wrath or the *first* tick of consecrate will always hit as they are spells, and therefore fall under the 14% hitcap.

hard dps figures are grossly misleading.

if you want to be awesomezomgleet, go into reg CoT:Strat with a pally tank, boomkin, sham, and other. bring flasks/scrolls/food. watch as you pass 3500 dps.

now take yourself to a lvl 70 targeting dummy and strugle to get 2k before you kill yourself.

its all relative my friend. i would like to say i can do # dps(like is often written by hunters in LFG tab). truth is, you will have an output that each encounter allows. sometimes aoe will win, sometimes melee will win, sometimes ranged will win, and many times survivability will win.

i will admit, gearing a Ret pally for decent output has gotten pretty easy overall.

or the *first* tick of consecrate

Actually, it will. The first tick of Consecrate is 2 attacks at once. The DoT that does damage will always hit (you'll always get a full 8 damaging hits every time) but there's another 9th hit that represents a "shockwave" of sorts that comes with the first tick that can be resisted on the spellhit mechanic. That extra tick is the one that causes the mob to flinch like it's being hit by a spell, breaks stealth, blah blah blah but it doesn't do any damage.

But yea, 1/2 of the first tick of Consecrate (the half that causes no damage at all) can still be resisted at 9% :D

Threads like this make me cry :(

In my Ret gear, with a proper Ret spec, I've only done 1400-1500 DPS in 5 man content ...

Really need to work on that gear >.> At least it's my off spec :D

Same here. On the bright side, speccing ret has given me a new appreciation - now I have a solid example of "if the DPS is not better than this, why are we taking them on the raid?"...

I'm a little frustrated that i always see green (hunter) bars above mine on dps meters, or see a DK pull *just* ahead of me in a heroic even if we have near-identical gear. Retribution will have a few buffs to PvE damage in the next patch, so things will be a little more balanced after that hopefully.

Of course, there are certain fights where you will see your ret dps go astronomically through the roof; Noth the Plaguebringer anyone?

I'm staying on 2900AP, 30% crit and 303hit unbuffed - but I'm having a hard time to get my dps above 2400 in raids :S

Now I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my rotaion?

"Single target"

judgement
CS
DS
(now judgement and CS cd should be rdy about the same time)
CS
Judgement
(to avoid missing a cd again)
DS
*Now I'm just using what ever gets rdy first*

"AoE"

DS
consecration
judgement
CS
DS
CS/judgement
*what ever I didn't use in the last move - CS/judgement*
etc..
