Macros are dissappearing after log outFollow

Anyone else having issues with their macros dissappearing after they log out of the game? I just started having this issue when the pre-WoTLK patch came out, which changed the talent trees. Ever since then the macros I create and save like I always have go bye-bye when I log out.

I've tried everything from updating Vista, to contacting Blizzard. They had me move my game folder to my desktop and start running my wow.exe as an administrator, but I'm not convinced this is an OS problem. It can't be coincidence that this issue started as soon as that first patch came out.

Any suggestions? It is much more difficult to play a mage post lvl 70 without macros. Thanks.

Are you logging in at multiple computers? They are kept on the server now and not on your PC from what I understand. Although one thing that I noticed is that if I login on a different computer that doesn't already have those macros it acts as if I deleted all of them and when I get home they are all gone -- at least the ones specific to the character, the main ones (general ones) are still there.

Actually no I'm not logging in with different computers. The same computer I create the macros on, and have played on for the last few years, is the same computer I use to play.

My brother does use my system to log into his account from time-to-time, but this doesn't seem to be related. I've tried creating macros in both the main and character specific areas.

Thanks for the help Anobix.

Anyone else getting on your account and playing your character? I've found that sometimes that will get rid of my macros.

No. No one else is playing my character. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to continue creating new macros everytime I log in. /sigh

After you create your macros and logout go to your WTF folder (and go through the directories with your account etc) and get to the macros.txt open it and see if your macros are in there. If so close it out and right click it and set it as read-only.

Have you posted this on the oboards (blizzard forums) in the tech support/bug report section?

Well after some exploring around in the WTF folder. I found that there were two files both named macrocache.txt. One was in my character specifc folder, the other was in my account name folder. The one in the account name folder seemed to have some of the macros i wrote when I first started my mage. (mostly /p /heal me! and stuff like that) These have never dissappeared. I deleted this file and created a new one by the same name. I then copied and pasted the macros i had in a separate word doc and saved them into this file.

Presto - I can log in, log out, create new macros and they are still there when I log back in. Nothing like a bit of file tree surgery with a good prognosis. Thanks.
