You Tell Me what "Good DPS" is...Follow

#1 Dec 29 2008 at 12:38 PM Rating: Good
Okay folks, Rant on...

I am getting livid with the following one liners as excuses for bumming myself and other Hunters out of new, supposedly 'Easy', content -

"You dont put out enough white DPS"

"Your not geared for it"

"You cant CC"

Blah Bleedin Blah!

Here is my armory, and before you click know this, I realise I am short on certain enchants and could do with some better trinkets, rings, but its new content and it all beats hands down what I had at level 70 and is following all advice in the stickys and advice I have recieved from my learned betters in this game, not just Hunters either.

http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Moonglade&n=Morg%C3%A1nne

So would someone like to tell me how good a set up this is so far for someone who can get online for about 8 hours through the week and a six hour burst at the weekend?

How do you figure out DPS? and what does it mean when I see people spouting out about "I do 5k DPS". Does that mean they get 5k in one crit shot or is it all their shots added up when they take out one mob? Does this include the pet damage or just what they do with their ranged weapon?.

It seems the casual player is getting pushed further away from this game sometimes and I hate to point it out to these toss*rs but I pay just the same as them to see the same content as they do. No they dont owe me a free ride through certain content but they can certainly point me in the right direction rather than being outright hostile Wan*ers.

I can raid and work as a team, I can kite, CC and I have more than once,(lost count in all actuality), saved the *** of a healer, sometimes at the loss of my life, because a cretin tank and off-tank have lost it and left the DPS and Healer in the deep brown and shi**y.

I read the forums, learn from others and pay attention, I also take PUG's through lower level content and run lowbies for free where they want because old school players had the same time for me, hell for fun I run Ramps by myself just for kicks. (Okay. not hard, but it shows my enthusiasm for these places).

I am polite and mind my manners and if I cause a wipe, I PAY THE REPAIR BILLS. Yes that is right, I am that damned responsible for my own stupidity in the event I have a brain fart and stand in the wrong place.

But alas, I am yet to enter anything meaningful in WOTLK because no one is willing to take a little bit of skill that can make up for a little lack in gear.

*sigh* I am going to stop now as you have all heard it before. Flame, rate down and reply as you will. As always Mental I look forward to your reply in particular.

/Rant over.

Let me know what I should do to my gear anyways and if someone could answer my DPS queries earlier in the rant that would be awesome, going to grind some Gold over next few weeks before levelling to 80. Apologies to Tanks and Off Tanks who can do their job, you know who you are.

Bummer.

*I would take one of your points in cobra strikes and throw that into readiness. It hasnt been nerfed yet.

*Your gear looks fine, you are way over the hit cap which is nice, and your AP seems low. I forget what mine was at 78 though.

*Get a good guild, not some huge guild full of idiots, but a smaller more skilled guild. You can learn a lot and have some fun in raids and heroics. I rarely pug anymore at all, once you get into that kind of a setting it all gets a lot better.

*Also, remember that you are not 80 yet. Just keep doing what you are doing and the gear and groups will come.

*You may want to research and get a better ranged weapon. Atlas loot is a great gear finder.

*DPS is your damage per second. Recount is a great damage meter if you want to try one.

*Read here. http://elitistjerks.com/f74/ Lots to learn there.

QFT. When you run consistently with the same people, they get a chance to see what you're capable of. I'd take someone who works well with the team and does their job right and has mediocre gear to someone who's completely loaded with "teh EPIXX!1" and doesn't know their a** from a hole in the ground.

Find a good guild, and the rest will follow.

Thanks for the words of advice, I shall look at boosting my AP, perhaps losing some of the +Hit which as has been pointed out I am over the cap.

I will pop over to Elitist Jerks as well and see what the dealio is with DPS et all and shall install Recount as one of my Adds and see what I put out overall and let you know.

Anything else I should know?

Is it me or is it always a little odd when you dont see Mental pop up with a comment. Normally hilariously insulting but nonetheless informative and tells you want you need to know....Mental?

Ho hum off to dreary work to shout at some Hairy ***** truck drivers.

Hehe. I don't visit the hunter forums as often as some of the others. Lately I've put my hunter on hold until my dk, warrior and rogue hit 80. Also all the forums have been a little slow this time of year.

You crit like a girl. Smiley: grin

I wouldn't worry too much about it really. Just level and get to 80 and start from there. Your hit is currently 10.49%, the cap was lowered from 9% to 8%. You could easily drop some of your hit in exchange for ap/crit.

Your talents seem a little bit scattered, a point here or there. In most cases you should be going full out in talents, 5/5 3/3 etc instead of 4/5 2/3 etc.
