so...should I feel bad about this?Follow

First, some background. I'm in all blues except for a single epic, and unbuffed, except in tree, I have about 1330 SP, 15k mana, and 580/200-ish regen. I started healing heroics at around 1050 SP and in blues from the regular instances, and my first heroics were UP, UK, CoT, AN, and...one more I don't remember. We did them all in a row, and had hardly any troubles (it was with the first group I talk about below). In fact, we pretty much steamrolled through them. I've since healed most of the heroics minus the two Ulduars and Gundrak, having little trouble unless the tank blew or dps wasn't good enough. (I healed a pally with 460-ish defense and...I forgot how much, but not very much HP...through a heroic D'TK, which was rough, but fine once we got a rhythm down)

I've attempted two timed CoT runs. First time was with a group where our DK tank was in almost all blues, and our dps were: one in mostly blues and two in some epics (about half, I suppose). It was the first time trying a timed for all of us, so none of us knew where the special boss was, but we zoomed through and downed Mal'Ganis with a bit over a minute left, meaning we could've downed the drake boss had we known where he was.

2nd time, we wiped once, and had we hustled, we could've made it. We were short by a few minutes, but that was only because we didn't think we could make it after wiping. When we realized we could've, it was too late.

Now, this time, I was in a group, and it would've been a great group. But

1) The DK tank had never been there. He didn't really make any mistakes, but we probably lost a couple minutes from not hustling from one spot to the next as fast as we were capable of.

2) The mage would (I think unknowningly (e.g. no meters)) pull aggro on occasion

3) For speeds sake and to save me once, the ret pally would end up pulling aggro.

We wiped twice. Once because we had just downed Meatlame and were running to a more central location when the next group spawned on top of me, and the second at the 3rd boss when the DK said to stop dps. Reason? So we didn't get aggro. He did Army of the Dead. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure they don't taunt or attack friendly characters. Anyway, in my confusion, I die, but the DK and pally manage to down him. We ran out of time at the beginning of the alley after the bookshelf.

Few things I did wrong: Ran back after the first wipe instead of porting (didn't know the gnome did that). Didn't wait for pally rez after 2nd wipe (didn't think they'd down him). Didn't heal myself in time during 3rd boss (too confused by "Stop DPS").

On average, the party(minus myself of course) was pulling around 1400 dps each.

Should I feel bad about us not making it? I was (I didn't check gear, but from the way they were talking) presumably the only one in mostly blues. I think, however, had I not been having to heal the mage and pally so much, and had the tank been there before, we would've made it...

Don't feel bad about it -- I'm sure elements of your play contributed to not making the time, but so did elements of the entire group's play. It's tough with a tank that doesn't know the instance, it's tough with groups that don't know the spawn points (you might not be able to predict where they will spawn, but you can always avoid standing directly on top of a spawn point).

1400 DPS from everyone is not great -- but it's the bare minimum needed to get it done in time. 1800 all around is more comfortable, and 2000 makes it nice and easy. Definitly don't worry about your stats/gear -- you're in a fine position to heal through it. It doesn't actually take a whole crapton of spell power as long as the tank is doing what they can to make healing easier, having the mp5 is valuable though.

Keep at it, you're on the brink of achieving it. Then you get the joy of having to roll for the Drake. Especially with PuGs where you can't just expect it after losing the roll 4 days in a row.

dont sound too bad to me. i run it with my naxx group wich only the healer has gotten upgrades from naxx i think lol. we normaly run with pally tank me as boomkin a healadin mage and a ret pally or it will be a priest healer and mage with a dk blood. we have it on farm i havent ran in a few days so havent gotten my drake yet think i'm the only one lol. but a tip for after you start the ally way dont wait for him once he opens the bookcase have the tank pull first two group of elites and take them down and keep doing it if you can heal through it.

The CoT timer isn't >that< hard to hit (me and many guildies have had our bronze drakes for weeks), and you don't need super gear (got one once with two DPS that had just hit 80 the previous day), but you do need pretty good technical play. I'd be surprised if anyone got theirs on the first time in the instance, since it's hard to impress how fast you have to move. Can't really say if it was your fault without having been in the run, but I do know that having a clothy pull and require heal bombs is a huge detriment. Our groups never move after killing a boss until the next flag spawns, so might consider that.

If you can keep the tank up on the elites, everyone up on the nonelites, and not have to stop to drink, you're not bogging the group down. It's possible to heal through DPS pulling stupid sh*t (I call them "miracle heals"), but really if you're hitting these 3 points, it comes down to good play from the rest of the group. The healer can't do everything.

By the way, my personal benchmarks for getting a drake are approx:
15 minutes left after killing second boss
8 minutes left after killing third boss.
